A lot, it was a gift for my brother ~$2500 I think and then I dropped another $1000 into it fixing stuff and making it faster/look better.
Also just fixed the issue with BFBC2. Something with the latest GeForce drivers so I switched over to the latest Quadro ones with a modded .inf file and...
Long time no post... Figured I should come back to this thread and update everything. RMA'd the 260 and it's back in action. 100% stable overclocked at 3.6GHz, GFX cards are overclocked to SC speeds. I can game with SSC speeds but can't fold so I'll just compromise. Updated first post with pics...
Try doing a fresh install of your video drivers before jumping to conclusions.
If the screen starts artifacting or going a whole colour like purple or brown then yes your card is toast.
Ok back this is what I got.
My single GTX 260 Core 216 stock clocks and Q9400 @ 3.2GHz get the following in Crysis on the first level up to the COM station.
1680x1050
All settings set to Very High (Max)
AA @ 2x
And I get a average framerate of 20. Keep in the mind the human eye needs to see...
Ditch the following:
Socket 775 (EoL. Time to upgrade to 1366).
Xeon processor (a q9xxx is cheaper and has the exact same performance)
PSU (800w is way overkill for that system, 500w would be closer to what you need)
GPU (for a little bit more you could get something a lot better... GTX...
OP what size is your monitor/ what resolution are you running at because a GT240 will "work" for lower resolutions but forget about once you step up past 22" screens.
Lol you guys must be running at low resolutions. 1680x1050 and up will bring those systems to their knees if you try to use a...
Omg no this thread is full of fail. Geese fix your links so I know what parts you're recommending.
FYI, A computer under $1000 isn't going to be able to handle all the demanding games out that you're probably going to want to play (Crysis, Metro 2033, BFBC:2, DiRT2, the list goes on).
Expect...
Xeon is meant for servers but people do use them in enthusiast builds.
For socket 775 (which has reached the end of it's life and isn't worth buying anymore):
Dual core -> Quad core -> Quad core extreme (unlocked multiplyer) Then it died and the i7 came out which is doing crazy things now with...
Lol VMWare is a virtual machine. This basically makes buying a mac null since you're using a different OS on it in the first place. Buy a Dell Mini (PC) and then put a Apple OS on it... Ok it's still a PC... not a Mac...
Windows 7 S***s all over the competition. Sorry but I've worked with both OS's and I just can't see myself ever using Mac again. It was a horrifying experience to say the least.
Lol you bricked the laptop... sorry but I hope it's still under warranty.
The only other thing you can try is to reset the CMOS (I don't even know how to do this on a laptop but there will be a battery on the motherboard somewhere or a jumper for it).
Wrong it's SATA. Just flipped upside down I do believe. Also look at the cable in the background it says "Serial ATA" on it. ;)
(I guess there are connectors without the "L" shape so it's not entirely idiot proof)
EDIT: I just checked my external HDD which has eSATA and the input matches the...
What's the model number?
An easy way is to take the side cover off and look for something like in the picture below going into the disc drive and HDD(s):
If you disabled the BIOS the computer wouldn't even start... Upon pressing the start button a signal is sent to the BIOS. Where the computer then goes throw it's first and second POSTs (Power On Self Test). Then control is switched over to the MBR (Master Boot Record) Which looks for a...
Lol hate to break it to you but you screwed the OS. If you get a black screen when you try to load Safe Mode then critical files are missing.
It sounds like your going to have to reformat since this is more than just a registry problem. Get on another computer and burn a copy of an OS, always...
