Here is the final character. Imported in to UE4. Its somewhat different after changes. Real time reflections on the bulb helmet are going to make for some amazing visuals with explosions and weapon shots.

Yeah new video, not much:
-3D menu system using camera illusions (pulsing) and shapes
-Simple 3D collision (buggy, only just implemented)
-3rd person camera which follows the player and can change directions (will use in my game as a unique element)

Where not their yet. Another 2 weeks and it will be completed, rigged.

I have to say, I envy the fact that you have actual artists and modelers. Finding good artists that know what they're doing on the technical side as well has got to be the hardest thing to do. I know some people who are great artists, but they're good with pencil and paper, so I end up trying to scan some stuff they draw, and trying to make vectors of it in Photoshop or something, lol, and my Photoshop skills are very limited.

Lol yes, that's why I only accept artists who have made material for video games and have knowledge in UE4. Of course I pay my artists a lot of money to do this quality as well.

Did you find it difficult going from c# to c++ in UE4 or did you already have prior experience with the the language?

I will be picking up C++ soon. I will not be coding this game. I will only be using BluePrint visuals scripting system.

I've hardly done any C++ at all, and I come from a primarily Java background, and I picked up the C++ in UE4 rather quickly. I don't actually use it anymore(I'm the only developer on my team, so a full featured AAA engine is a little much for me), I use LibGDX currently. If you know what you're doing with OpenGL it can be very powerful.

The one thing that killed me about C++ in UE4, was that I had to use Visual Studio, I hate it with a burning passion, and that's probably half the reason I won't really be using it(the other half being that I don't have artists to do 3D work, and it's overkill for a 2D game).

Did you use XNA prior to UE4?

Also I just noticed they released CryEngine for $10/month much like how UE4 is $20/month. It might be worth looking into for people who do high end game development.

UE4 > Cry Engine

Its a good engine no doubt, but theirs a reason they advertise it for cheaper.

Well, for one they're backed by a publisher, not independent like Epic.

I don't know, I come from a Java background, and I pretty much only use Eclipse. Anything that's not Java I typically use a high end text editor(Sublime most of the time), and a command line to run it. I just don't like any other IDE's. I've used a bunch, Code::Blocks, NetBeans, IntelliJ, Visual Studio, DevC++(Idk if that's really considered a full featured IDE), the list goes on. Eclipse is the only one I've ever even remotely liked, and Eclipse's C/C++ tools are sub-par at best, but they have decent tools for PHP and most lightweight languages like LUA and JavaScript and stuff.

I'm sure they have really useful and are good if you like them, but I just can't use them, there's no real specific reason, I just generally don't like any other IDE's.

I used CryEngine about a year or so ago, and I didn't like it that much(I had used it right after expirementing with the UDK during UE3, and I kind of got the feeling that Unreal Engine was better. I think at the time though CryEngine won in the graphics department, but UE4 is just ****ing beautiful.

I don't recall it ever being better in the graphics department. It has good graphic no doubt. But UE4 takes it for a walk this time around.
