I was thinking today when i called every single video store and asked if they had Ryse son of rome and every single store was out of them and won't be back till the 29th. So, i was thinking... if we can buy games on demand.. why can't we rent games online too? I know it may be a security issue with people stealing the games but, think about the beta's that are released for a certain time... you could rent it for 1-2$ a day and you could play it and when ur rental is over the game locks and you can either re-rent it or buy it. I would seriously rent every game if this was available to us. Do you think this feature will ever come to the next generation? I have always been thinking about how awesome this would be and it definitely would be profitable for the developers because the games are already on the marketplace... why not rent them out?

Thoughts?

I'd love to see this happen. Would be a great way to see if you actually want to fully go out and buy a game or not.

Gamefly already does this with some PC games.

Microsoft does this already with their video service, so providing a similar service games is no where close to being out of the question.

1) Find game
2) Pay fee
3) Download
4) Upon installation and first time run of the game, start timer.

It can easily require that you have constant internet connection in order for the game to operate to ensure you aren't stealing the game.

I'd prefer a game streaming service moreso than a rental service, however.

MS does have plans for streaming games in the future which will be 5-10 years down the road and once they do this we might not see another console because they would be able to stream the latest games at the higest GFX settings straight to our current consoles. Actually we will see another console that is specific for this cause now that i think of it I remember MS stating they built the one to last for 10 years minimum. Got a little sidetracked there but shoot your idea to people and get it trending. We have changed many things on the one and MS is VERY open eared toward what we want. They might seem money hungry ( I dont think they are but most people do), but in reality every company wants money. They will listen to you if you are loud enough for them to hear you and your idea. Hell try tweeting Major Nelson or another community spokesperson. This seems like it would be a great idea.

Edit: Does anyone remember what they attempted with one of the fables before? they broke it into 5 parts and the first was free for people to try and the rest were a small fee to pay to continue progress and if you felt like you didnt want to play anymore you could quit and not purchase the parts that you hadn't purchased yet. I feel this would be a really cool concept to bring back as well with major changes to catch peoples eyes tho. The big question would be how to control MP for this and I would feel that maybe making MP its own part and charging for that would be good enough as well as giving a small taste of the MP with a game mode or 2 with a few maps in the free part for everyone to try. Got kinda off topic but just came to mind so thought to throw it out there lol

Very interesting.. yea I'm not sure what they would do with the MP but i feel like even a single player only rentable game would be awesome. It would work great with games like batman and bioshock because people mostly buy those games to play the story anyway. Maybe i will try tweeting major nelson... probably won't ever read it but its worth a shot.

Sometime like that could definitely happen. The system could work much like the PS+'s timed demos.

You get to play the game (full version) for 60 minutes, then you get locked out and must purchase it to continue playing. I don't think timed trails require you to be online either, it's all software side. You also get to keep your saves, and any trophies you unlocked show up if you decide to purchase the game.

IDK if MS has figured it out but sony kinda has a way that may lead to that. With their PS+ you get free games for only the duration of your PS+ after it runs out the games become unplayable and will not start up.

It would be cool but it seems like it would be too easy to steal the game some how...

what about betas that get released... they lock those.

I know, I still have the beta from Halo Reach! But I feel like someone would figure out a way to keep the game somehow...

Uh...You do know you would probably run out of rental time by the time you download the whole game right? Unless you have really good internet.

They can start the timer the first time the game was ran.

It's way to risky. Very few people would use it the way it works and most would just steal the game after downloading.
Wouldn't be right. Therefore, no need to input it.
If someone steals the game after buying it, at least they got the money for it then some putty rent change.

How would people be able to steal it?

Completely missed this being Xbox One section :o
Well, I'm sure there are ways. I couldn't really say how because I am not too sure

I'll still stand at my ignorant opinion of it being a dumb idea ;L
