So i bought this RGH from a guy on here almost exactly a year ago. and it was $400 because it included a bunch of cool stuff (smoke clear case, a remote that changes the LED lights on the inside, custom ring color.) and so it all added up to $400. well anyways so during last summer it stopped working and i realized it was the 1TB external hard drive that has everything on it for the RGH to even go on all the modded stuff (if you turn on the console without the HDD it will just boot into normal dashboard and request for an Xbox live update.) So i just left it be for a few months. then this last November i tried it and it would work if i had a shoe or something putting weight on the cord that connects the external HDD to the console. Then FSD would boot up and i'd have all my stuff on it. i have a **** ton of 360 games on it and also most of the arcade games from the market place on it. But a few weeks ago it started to not work and i can't get it to work again. and i know it's because the port in the ext. HDD where you plug the cord from the Xbox into it is broken somehow, (i have no idea how,i never dropped it or anything.) And i'm really disappointed i only had it for a year and paid a lot of money for it. i'm just wondering if it's completely worthless now? i'm assuming no one would actual pay money for a possibly broken RGH. but i mean, it still plays games off disc if you put them in. And i'm not very tech savvy enough to know how to fix the hard drive but maybe someone else could be. Or it could possibly be used for parts maybe? i just REALLY don't want to throw it out. it has soooo many games on it. and i know when working it's worth a lot of money. i would like some suggestions on what to do with it and if i should just toss it or not.... thanks.

Before you get rid of it, I would try to get the external working on a PC and transfer all of the data onto a new External HDD if you can get it onto your computer. If you really can't find a way to even get the files off and onto a computer and If the external is the only thing that is broken, the console should still work and run unsigned code provided the external is not connected.

Have you tried hitting the eject button and seeing if the console still boots into Xell? If it does boot into Xell, the RGH I would think should still function, you'll just need to replace XeX Menu and then FSD and dashlaunch and all of the homebrew/games you had before. It will take some time, but if the console still works why throw it out? Like I said try booting into Xell

It's not the console it's the external dieing I would get a new one asap and try and get the data backed up onto the new one until it is too late

That is the best way to go. OP- You are seriously overestimating this issue, it is very simple.

well no i can't... i plug it into the computer and it says something like "USB is not responding" and when i click that message it says the memory unit has malfunctioned. etc.

Alrighty, give it a go! Try hitting the eject button on the console without the external plugged in  If it boots Xell you're in the clear and can re-setup everything.

Glad I could help! Is it a phat or a slim? If you want to have avatar items, DLC, and XBLA games you're going to need at least 1 360 formatted device. As far as games I'd recommend getting another external drive like you had and formatting it to FAT32. However, still try to see if you can find anyone who might be able to fix the external that you already have. You never know!

Also it might just be the controller on the external. You could try breaking open the casing and taking the HDD out itself and then put it into a new enclosure.

i could try. i geuss i have nothing to lose. i'd have to literally cut the casing off though. there's no screws or anything to open it with.
