So, you want to flash your xbox but don't want to use your 360 as power supply? Because we all know that the 360 OS logs when it boots up without a drive connected.
So instead of spending $30 on a ck3, you can make your own!
I wouldn't suggest doing this if you're not good with soldering and/or just splicing things together.
So turn off your computer and unplug it from the wall. Press the power button a few times to kill all electricity still inside. Open the case and try to find a SPARE Sata power supply(NOT a 4 pin molex power).
You will see there are 5 cables going in to it. Slice the end off leaving just the wires, and use a wire cutter to strip about half an inch of wire from each.
Now, find a SPARE 360
dvd drive power cable
I took this one out of my old original xbox that doesn't work.
Now again, cut off one of the connectors of the drive cable at the very end so it's still long, and strip about half an inch of wire from each of them.
Now all you have to do is connect the right wires to the right wires you stripped from the sata power connector in your computer.
1/2 - Not Connected
3 - 3.3v (for Eject)
4 - 3.3v (for modeB)
5, 7, 9 and 11 - Ground
6 - 3.3v
8 - 5v
10/12 - 12v
and for the PC sata connector
orange wire - 3.3v
black wire(s)- ground
red wire - 5v
yellow wire - 12v
After you get them connected to each other, it should look like this
That black thing you see close to the 360 connector is a switch on the 3.3v line to turn on/off the dvd drive. I also have a single wire connected to one of the sata power cables ground wires, that leads to a metal nail, and this is my probe.
This is just my first quick tutorial write-up. I will most likely add more pictures and change information as I see what people need help with.
EDIT 1:
you could use something like this to do the mod, then just plug it into the PC power cable, if you don't want to slice up wires inside your computer. I might do something like this to sell on Ebay.
Edit 2:
To hook up a switch to the "6" line so you can power on/off the drive you take a 3 prong switch (spdt) and wire it up like this
black - 3.3V from sata power
red - to PIN 6 from 360 power adapter
green - not used
then when the switch is one way, it's connected to both 3.3v and 360, when it's other way, it's only connected to 360 with no power.
you can also make an eject switch the same way.
black - 3.3v from sata
red - to 360 wire number 3 (open/close)
green - ground
then it will open and close the drive
