Actually, use combofix ever once and a while and check the logs it gives you or post in the HijackThis Log Analyzer and Tutorials on HF and the HJT Team will help you.
You shouldn't be running tools like that without proper instruction to do so.

It compiles a report of errors and of the like. You go through them and remove the RAT, logger, worm, etc yourself. Not that hard. AVs can be bypassed quite easily, and you shouldn't always trust them.

ComboFix is a very powerful tool, if you don't know what you are doing you shouldn't even be running it. Only true trained malware specialist should be using or instructing people to use that tool.

No, you shouldn't be running this tool until a helper tells you to do so. Plus the section on HF is closed for now, instead people should be going to MyBleepingComputer or Geeks2go.

that is why you should never pay for antivirus, especially when there are a ton of free options that work better than the paid ones

I've been using AVG for a little less than a year now and I really like it. Doesn't annoy me, does it's job and my computer is fine. Didn't pay a single cent for it. Downloaded on TPB with a license til 2018, so I'm covered til then

Norton is a scam. Had it 4 years ago and they wanted me to PAY for a fix that Windows Live OneCare fixed for free at the time. Total ripoff

Great thread. the basics of antivirus 101. Nowadays the major AVs come with both an AV and Internet protection (all the fake websites and whatnot).

I wouldn't say ignorant, I would say fact. I'v not had a single virus on either my MacBook Pro or iMac.

Maybe in the future as more people buy Macs then viruses may increase, but for now I would say I'm pretty safe.
