According to BS Angel (Community Manager at Halo Waypoint) mentioned that they banned for profile modifications. Just a heads up for those of you who modded your accounts.

EDIT: Clarification; apparently he was banned because he put a illegal character in his Service Tag. (@#$% ect...)

Don't get my hopes up like that. That kid just added a # symbol to his service tag.

Yep, the worse part is that not only is it a profile ban, it's also a console ban so making a new profile on that Xbox wont do you any good. I guess 343 is trying to get people to buy there Halo 4 Xboxs then. lol

Seems like there system is a bit of a joke, None of this banning B.S. ever started in Halo 3, and it turned out just fine. Banning people for very small things like invalid characters put into service tag, or maybe trash talking 2 or 3 matches. Actually legitimately being idle for a couple games can get you banned from matchmaking? A simple wrong character in your service can cost you your entirety on Xbox Live for Halo 4 and you're console? Honestly these people have gone mad with power...

Again take away the really loyal customers by taking away a competitive online ranking system and promising them one later on down the road; with it not being clarified that it shows up on Waypoint only, trick the customers into buying and find out later eh? And take away some more by banning for illegitimate small things that deserve a week ban AT MOST; are actually dumb. Very good system 343/Microsoft have in place, keep sucking as much money from them as possible.

Then sell your copy, thatl show them!!! /sarcasm. Dont like it? Dont play it. Some paragraph you post on a site that is not even affiliated with 343 isn't going to help.

Those that have hardons for visible skill are hardly loyal customers.
And it was clarified right on the original announcement that ranks would be Waypoint only.
Quit yer b****in', because you are doing it for literally no raisin.

I'm as loyal as a fan as they come and have been through the entire series, I've put far too many hours into this game to switch to COD or any other game for that matter. I bought this game under the notion that a ranking system would come out eventually "In-Game". but was misinformed just like tons of others where they deliberately twisted their words in an article stating it would come out; but for Waypoint. Just had to rant a bit...

You act like Bungie were saints. That is a far shot from being true. The reason that there were not too many bans in Halo 3 was because at the time, there were almost no online mods. The only thing that were really modded were screenshots and maps. Both of those they basically instabanned people from using their fileshares. Bungie was arguable the first developers to have the term "ban hammer" bestowed to their arsenal (the term did not originate with Bungie, but it certainly helped it go more viral)

343i is probably just sending a message. A console ban is a little far, and i have never heard of a dev doing this for something that is done by USB modding. If it was done by RGH or JTAG for some horrible reason, then a console ban would be in order. I am sure that the console ban is a rumor. You act like they "accidentally" modded their gamertag. They knew the risks, just as everyone on this site should. These bans are reasonable and almost identical to every well enforced game.

And as for your second post, i have continuously argued these points on other posts, so ill try and condense it. If you do not like the game 343i has made, do not play it. Stop complaining about yourself not being able to brag about having a 50. It is still there. You will still get paired up with the same caliber of people. The only difference is the fact that you do not get to brag and say, "Haha, i am "x" rank, and you are "y"." And the information on the rank system was out MONTHS before the game came out (I have known since RTX which was in July). Do not blame 343i for your ignorance. And again, you know by modding you are risking ban. Just as if you mod your achievements. You can get a gamertag ban. While you do not agree with the system, Microsoft doesn't care. You are 100% in the wrong. You broke their rules, so they enforce their punishment. Dont like it, get a PS3.

Modding is modding, if you get caught you're going to be banned. Honestly, I completely understand a full console ban from halo 4, maybe even all of xbl, for modding of any sort. Because modding means you have intention to cheat/gain an unfair advantage/obtain items unfairly. Modding fotus is going to be a serious letdown to all those people that bought the console and especially those that purchased a code online. I feel bad for them.

We all know the risk, we cheat because we can. No reason to complain when you're caught.

Second sentence:
We are pleased to announce, just days away from the worldwide Halo 4 launch and the first MLG Halo 4 tournament in Dallas, the Competitive Skill Rank system in Halo 4. The CSR will appear post-launch in an update to Halo Waypoint and associated Smartglass applications
No words were twisted at all. Clear as crystal.

I'm referring strictly to what I mentioned in the post. I agree 100% on the armor/item situation that is drastically modifying game content that may take other people countless hours/days and even extra cash to get; they know 100% what they're doing and sure perma ban if necessary. I think anything else, the people who get caught in the unfortunate event of being banned for leaving their controller idle a few games and getting banned. Or putting one different letter in the service tag honestly does not seem fair to me to ban these people for life from the game. I'm talking about the people that have a legitimate excuse but still face the banhammer. Which rarely ever happened in Halo 3.
