Hey guys, i acquired a RROD xbox 360 from a friend. The SATA connector is broken, but it could possibly be JTAGable. I just want to be able to play a couple offline games and such. The xbox originally had 3 Red Rings, and a secondary error code of 0102. i used the "re-flow with a heatgun" fix on it, as suggested by members here. i heatgunned the overall board on low for 30 seconds, then i concentrated on the top of the board for 4 mins as directed by a youtube tutorial. The heatgunning went well, and i did exactly what i was supposed to do and everything came out fine. no popped caps, i didn't overdo it, etc. I booted it back up and i get 2 Red Rings, sections 1 and 3. the secondary error code is 0011. what can i do to fix this? would it have anything to do with thermal paste? i have all the heat sync screws tightened properly.

Thanks

Garrett

thanks for the quick reply, but i know it means overheating. the heat syncs are tightened as much as needed so it could not possibly be actually overheating. any other suggestions?

thanks

garrett

E05: CPU over heating - If you are receiving this error after disassembling your console make sure to all 8 of the heatsinc screws are tightened securely to the board/heatsink holes.

Try tighten the screws on it

umm take the heat-sink off and check if some of the paste has actually touched the heat sink sounds like it is not making contact defo something wrong try re-flowing it using flux.

it could. the spread method is not as effective as the old press down after applying a bead of paste. dont spread it out, let the pressing down of the heatsink be enough. just make sure u apply enough compound.

so if not enough thermal paste was applied it would cause this?

Dude, seriously...NEVER f***ING USE A HEATGUN EVER!

Remove your heat sinks and clean the chips and heatsinks, make sure to get the chips to a mirror finish, rubbing alcohol and q-tips work well. Then put a small bead of artic silver 5 heat transfer paste IMPORTANT on each chip dont use to much and dont spread it out like guy above me said hes right.

Now only put heat sinks on finger tight to snug. connect power and av cable make sure the fan is unplugged turn on power and for the love of christ dont electrocute yourself. It will about immediatly show 2 red rings now unplug power to shut off and quickly snug the screws down in an even fashion DO NOT CRANK THEM TIGHT JUST SNUG.

The heatsinks will be mad hot so be carefull. set down and let cool for an hour. Now reconnect the fan and dvd drive ect and boot er up, most likely it will work again if it doesn't work or fails again soon after this process send it out for professional reflow.
