I'm relatively new to this whole firmware flashing business but after a few days of reading guides and tutorials I feel like I have a decent grasp on things. But I still have a few questions.
My situation is as follows: I have a 360 that has a manufacturing date of July 2007 (got it later in 07), but it has a LiteOn drive (yellow wires). I got RROD in late 2008 (I think, I can’t remember the exact date) so I’m assuming that they sent me back my original 360 refurbished with a new dvd drive.

I have yet to fully take apart my system, but I am hoping that I have the LiteOn 83850 v1. I also only have access to a macbook pro (with windows) to do the flashing, so I was wondering if I could buy the VIA 6421 card (like http://tekgems.com/Products/tg-la-pci22-vt6421a.htm) and use a sata to usb connector to connect it to my computer? Then from there I will use JungleFlasher and be on my way.

If you have any insight I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

I think you needa probe for the Lite-Ons I bought a SATA card for my Lie-On drive and someone told me I had to buy like a 50$ "probe"

See that's what I don't get, I have no clue on how to check the specific version of my Lite-On?
I think it has a label on the dvd drive itself (you have to take the xbox apart), but it isn't specific to whether it is v1 or v2 unless you know the exact date the drive was put in or when JungleFlasher tells you.

Ok so it turns out that I have the 74850C LiteOn drive. This means that I will have to buy a probe and kit to flash the firmware, but my question now is: If I get the CK3 pro, do I have to buy the VIA6421 card?

If it is a v2 then I will definitely need a probe, but I'm hoping that isn't the case.

no probe needed
