I want to start some serious case modding over the summer. You know, kinda like a personal project!
But your talking to a 14 year old that has little to none experience with drastically modifying a console's appearance. I couldn't imagine it could be too complex, but seeing others sporting their console in full pride really pushes me to do something just as cool and creative. I'll be doing a Ultra Violet themed case, complete with UV reactive fans(Two internal, at least one external), UV light strip, see through panel (Probably going to end up using the Xray kit), and a neon green finish to the shell (or case, whichever floats your boat).

First problem:
Fans, Fans, Fans.

These are the fans I was thinking of using:
Apevia 140mm UV fan (x1 {or more} external)
Apevia 80mm UV fan (x2 internal)

The only problem I have with the fans are that I have the slightest idea how to get power to them. The plugs they come stock with are of no resemblance to any type of plug found on a 360. So what do I do? Cut them and make some crude, makeshift connector to the existing fan? Do they sell adapters for these types plugs? This is my main obstacle here, so if you can't help me anywhere else, try to help me here.

Also, light source is a problem. Same as mentioned above, will this require an adapter of sorts? Do you know of a place that sells compact, UV LED light strips?

140mm fan(s) will be placed like so:
25k7mmx.jpg

Second problem:
Visiblity
I couldn't imagine this to be too difficult but there obviously needs to be a way to see inside the box.
I guess I'll be using the Talismoon Xray 360 (Amazon page)
Has anybody had experience with this panel? Is it sturdy? And where can you buy this that ship to the USA?
How about that window cutting tool they sell? Does it work, or is it better just to stick with a Dremel?

And that's pretty much the major things I need help with. You have no idea how long a little bit of help will go, so implore you to post your answers to my questions.

And for you selfish leeches: All HELPFUL posts will be +Rep'd

~Thanks

I don't know much about this stuff, but you definitively have the drive and interest to do this. The only problem you may encounter is with soldering the wires for the fans (if that is needed). But I see you have done your research and you seem like you are pretty smart so I'm sure you will be making some pretty cool cases soon

Well, just to let you know how crappy the Talismoon Xray Kit is: I didnt even open the packaging and it was snapped in 2 like a twig. Just cut a window in it (Over the past 2 days, I've cut out 2 cases and 2 dvd drives ;]) and get some plexi-glass and hot glue it. you can use whatever you have to cut it powertool wise but i bought a Dremel 300 series and the thing is AMAZING. Make sure you sand the hell out of the case if your going to paint it, even if you're not sand the hell out of the window cut. As for the fans, can you post a link? If I see the wires/ board they are connected to I can tell you how to wire it/where and provide a power pin-out for the MOBO.

Hope that helps

The links to the fans are in my main posts:

Apevia 140mm UV fan (x1 {or more} external)
Apevia 80mm UV fan (x2 internal)
Click on the names of the fans for the Amazon page.

And to everybody who has been posting: Thanks for your help.

Today I will begin sketching the box, so I'll post back with what it's going to look like

If this is your first time modding a case, I you should go on Ebay and search for a new xbox 360 plain case, HDMI or None HDMI depending on which board you have. I am also going to try to do this over the summer, but first its modding the new controller again! I wish you luck and hope you get your case modded the way you want!

-iBallistix +rep would be awesome

From what I can see, the 140mm fan is powered by the sata cable. it probably just piggybacks and splits the power with the DVD drive. The other 80mm fan is the same deal, just with the stock fan power supply. No soldering even needed, so you're good there. anything else? haha.

the only thing i can tell you, is that I am in the same boat as you..But the thing you need to get first is something to cut the case with..From that amazon link that i see..Its not available. And i would STRONGLY recommend you order a second case replacement just a quick search..here..it would make you rest easier if you had something to put back on if you mess up.
I think that they use a Drebel? It really would teach you alot if you did this..If you know how to use that tool, then you can apply it to many more situations.
Thats my two cents..

Really? Ok, thanks! What type of lights should I install? Are the Talismoon Aurora's any good?

Thanks for all your help guys!
Here are the fans. I misjudged the size of 80mm. They're HUGE. Thanks To FourShot, I now know what to do with the yellow wire on one of the fans. I ordered some purple LEDs for the ROL board, but I misread the discription of the product, and ordered LEDs for my 360 controller. Are they the same type of LEDs? I have a spare ROL board so there is room for trial and error.

If I remember correctly they are the same leds, here is another link that might help you out.

Are you planning on cutting open the Xbox 360? You can see the inside this way and it look a lot cooler then using a custom case like the one you linked on amazon. You never mentioned installing LEDs but with a case mod and LEDs installed inside, your console will look ghetto.

Okay, I'm back! Anyways, I just type up a enormous amount of text just for this post, and clicked something random and deleted everything ;_;
I will be picking up a new 360 tomorrow at Gamestop. I have the florescent green spraypaint, green Aurora LEDs from Talismoon, two 80mm fans to put on the sides of 360, one large 140mm fan to put on the top, and an old Whisper Max fan in red (the red is going to look terrible though ;_:wink:.
I will pick up Plexi-Glass at HomeDepot tomorrow to show the inside of the 360.

My question:
Should the fans be pushing cool air into the box, or should the fans be pulling hot air out of the box?

Thanks for you support!
