wasnt free60 mad a tmbinc for releasing such knowledge to the public before the "smc hack" was fully working?

They just didn't want him to release all of what they were working on. And he didn't. He released what he was working on for the project.

It was probably first developed by a computer programmer with the intent of accessing the NAND or modding it. The JTAG ports on any motherboard are for scanning, debugging, usually with the flash memory. Therefore utilizing these ports on the motherboard would allow a dumb of the flash memory or NAND, then you can install your own programs and/or rebooters.
