So on an offline profile, whenever I try editing my avatar, I see this message.
"Your Avatar had changed and needs to update it's clothes. To update them, sign in to Xbox Live"

Some items like avatar award props also only show an exclamation mark without letting me pick it at all, even if it's shown as unlocked on the achievements page.

I had something similar on an online account, but that's a live enabled account, so signing in fixed it for that. While with this second account, it's never been on XBL at all. I also already updated to the newest firmware via system update when I checked that. (It's not a modded system yet)

Is there a workaround to fix that? Or is setting it up for XBL the only way past it, in which case I'd assume you'd definitely need a stealth server to fix this on an RGH if thats the case.

for the avatar update?
yes u can do it offline easy with a usb.
The exclamation mark on items? it is microsofts way of saying u need the update or a way of saying u (don't legally own) those avatar items,
it will go away after u do the avatar update, if not then it's due to u needing to resign all your avatar items to your offline account to use them.
I remember 3 programs called fluffy & friday patcher & party buffalo something..
been so long since i used my rgh, but i used fluffy and it would get rid of the exclamation mark issue for u by resigning your avatar items to your account.

for example: fable 2 boots avatar item, to be able to use it on another account that isn't on the account i unlocked it for, fluffy or the other 2 patchers i mentioned could resign it for u to your other account.
it would decrypt a user profile, extract XUID, and patch the content with your XUID.

Those 3 programs came in handy if a account got corrupted on my rgh and i needed to move my avatar items to a new account or i just needed a quick exclamation mark fix for avatar items.

(for the avatar ghost update)
don’t forget to rename the folder
$$ystemUpdate

yes the ($$) is not a mistake
and make sure the usb is formatted to FAT32

and also u can watch this youtube video to watch how it’s done, he also left a update fix file done and made for u in the description.

hope this helps ya. happy modding

Would that work for avatar unlocks or just the marketplace ones in particular? The former are what I have the most trouble with, assuming Avatar Friday Patcher doesn't have something for that specifically.

Slight bump since I'm still not sure on solutions. I did install the avatar update via USB as sent by video, but that didn't make any difference, I don't know if I *have* to make that account live enabled, in which case what's the best way to go about that? (Stealth Server, some extra file to download, etc), or if there's some other solution for that as far as unlocking avatar items go (avatar award items, not marketplace items).

Apparently if you can take your profile online with the avatar items on a non modded console it patches the items then they work when you move them back over to a modded console. I'm having the same problem, but haven't had the chance to try it.

I'm guessing that means unlock it with tools like Velocity, then put it on an online enabled system?
That account hasn't ever gone onto XBL (my old one has) so what's the best way I should go about that? Would making it a live account by attaching an MS account, making sure it works, then deattatching or never logging onto XBL again work for that? Or is there some way that's simpler than that?

Hmm, I was under the assumption that if you just moved the items and your profile onto a USB and put it on an unmodified console, went online, then put it back, it would work. Like I say I have only read this somewhere though.

This is currently on the same system, which as of right now is unmodded. I'm trying to prepare it first and then mod it after that.
I'm guessing the solution is to convert this profile to an online one (since it was set up offline and doesn't have an MS account attached), modify and get the avatar items working, then potentially do something about keeping it offline, would that be a good idea? Don't really care about getting a ban but I don't know if there's a good way to deal with avatar stuff like this without making it an XBL account, assuming there isn't a way to spoof it of course.

sorry for the really late reply

I managed to find the old youtube video i used to learn about avatar item install/resigning. Just follow his video in detail and u should be good to go.

All i did to get avatar items to work was resign my entire 2,000 avatar items (699Mbs) over to my profile and used my usb to transfer to my rgh and followed his video to know which directory the items went and they all worked np.

The issue u described is just a avatar signing issue, u need to resign your unlocked/downloaded avatar items for each profile u make, u can’t use other profile avatar items with other profiles without resigning. If u go download more avatar items, u will need to resign those new items to your current profile to be able to use them in avatar editor. But remember everytime u reload avatar editor to edit your avatar, it will pop up the annoying message that it needs to connect to xbox live but u can click ok and just ignore it and just go back to editing your avatar and your avatar items will work and save np. The video i linked has a step of resigning which is needed so the xbox know’s which avatar items belong to which profile so u can use them.

Due note that having alot of avatar items can cause a major slow down when accessing systemsettings/storage via normal default xbox dash.

Gotcha. And just to make sure, would this also apply for avatar awards? I think I get it for store bought stuff but not sure if the steps are the same for unlocked avatar awards from some games.

yes, u can also look around on google for big massive avatar collection packs for download, some sites have big avatar dumps for u to download and use. Just if u decide to download them, scan with a antivirus first and then resign all those new avatar items to your current profile and u should be able to use them. Try to keep the file size of your avatar collection down to about max 1Gb. 600mbs is about 2k items. The 360 will start struggling to load them after about 600mbs from my personal experience.

btw avatar collection downloads is strictly for jtag/RGH only

Got it. For resigning, this modded profile hasn't been on XBL and doesn't even have an MS account tied to it, should I go ahead and do that? I'm thinking doing that -> resigning (assuming unlocker tools like Velocity work) -> remove it after, assuming I don't mess around with any stealth servers.

yes u can use that profile for unlocked or downloaded avatar items for offline use. Just if u decide to go online, do not use any of the downloaded avatar items u got from google to edit your avatar with while u are on xbox live, ik unlocks are different and are from games themselves and microsoft doesn’t give a crap if u unlocked them or not. So velocity should be alright for unlocks.

In game unlocked ones are mainly what I'm trying to setup, so that's good at least.

No problem! Sorry for all the questions, but avatar informations tough to come by for this and i wanted to know what i was getting into.
I still got to try setting it up later but if it goes well then I'll mark as solved after.

oh definitely! alot of the tuts for avatar editing and usb stuff is long gone and sites that hosted those tuts are shut down or the youtube videos been deleted so i get u completely. I learned most of the avatar and profile stuff back when Modio and Horizon were big like 2010’ish lol

but anyway if u still having trouble later, i’ll try to help u out.

So far what I did was convert that profile into an XBL silver profile (I kept the original offline one in a backup first though)
It did wipe a bunch of stuff when I did that given some prior profile mods, including wiping achievements and avatars to zero. *but* when I tried loading it in the offline profile afterwards, it *did* keep some of the avatar unlocked, though some still displayed the exclamation mark (Ascend, Dorito's Crash Course, Waypoint in particular, alongside some ones that don't display like one of the Meat Boy awards).
Then I tried modifying the live profile using Velocity, which worked at first when I was connected, but going to the original (via usb stick) didn't fix the other exclamation marks, and in fact using the live version while disconnected turned those into exclamation marks as well, connecting to XBL fixing those on that end, if I sign in and switch to the old one, it'll work while I'm in there, but exiting after that reverts all the exclamation marks again.

So kind of at a loss here, I don't really intend for this profile to stay on live at all (if I want that on a mod system then I'll make a profile solely for that), but I have no idea how to fix this, (assuming there isn't an easier fix using RGH but I'm setting up to get that first), I do have my original live profile (untampered) so I don't know if theres anything I can extract regarding gpd files (that worked for achievements but I'm at a loss regarding avatar awards)

EDIT: I also have this same profile with no live *or* avatar modifications so if there's anything I need to do with that then I still got that.

Still trying to figure things out, since I'm trying to keep this particular account offline, since that seems like less of a hassle to deal with compared to dealing with full Live on a modded system. Is it theoretically possible to "unlink" an account when I get it set up or no?

Having the exact same issue. Unlocked a T-shirt by playing Sonic Adventure, and that message pops up whenever I enter the avatar customization. Can't select the T-shirt no matter what I do.

Fakelive doesn't help either
