I'm currently running an i7-6700k with an rtx 2080. Right now my i7 isn't running up to par with my gpu and would often bottleneck me in games even more so when I have another application open in the background. Don't get me wrong though, the i7-6700k is still a beast in 2020 but I'm still looking for something with more power and multitasking capability.

Right now my current choices are the i9-9900k and the i7-10700k. I would consider the i9-10900k but I can't seem to find where or when it'll come back in stock (I don't think it'll be in stock for a while). Unless someone can find it in stock at a reasonable price then I'll cop that instead.

From my knowledge, it seems that they have the same amount of cores and threads and perform the same. I really want to get the i9 just so I can say I have an i9 in my system (lol) but is there a reason for me to get an i7-10700k over the i9?

I mainly use my computer to play games like civ 6, valorant, league, couple of AAA games, editing, and a lot of multitasking.

Also I prefer not to get an AMD as I am not really familiar with their products, and I'm just a filthy intel casual.

Budget is not an issue.

EDIT: I play in 1080p 144hz

It really depends on the kind of multitasking you do.

However, the 10900k is significantly more power full than the 10700k. If you have the money for it, it WILL outperform it.

I usually have chrome, spotify, and discord open in the background. Sometimes I'll watch my friends game on discord while I play a game.

I would buy the 10900k in a heartbeat if only i could find it at a reasonable price. But I don't know when it will come back and if it does, it'll probably be sold out before I can get it

I also heard the 10700k runs pretty hot, not sure if my h100i can handle it since already my 6700k runs somewhat hot during games.

That's not really multitasking... An i7-10700k would be just fine honestly. They don't run that hot. An h100i will do just fine. No point in spending more than what's really needed tbh

I see I had my definition of multitasking wrong all these years lol. And yeah i ended up going with the i7-10700k instead of the i9 just because it on the newer generation.

Thanks bro

Keep your eyes peeled on B&H Video for those i9's if you ever decide to upgrade, paid $649.99 for my 10900K today. Literally restock every two days compared to other companies who restock bi-weekly.
