Seeing as Windows 7 is going to lose support on January 14, 2019, I’m looking to upgrade to Windows 10. However, instead of paying for a new OS and seeing as I don’t really have the time to build a gaming PC, I’m curious if anyone knows of any good pre-built gaming laptops. I’ve heard that normally they are overpriced but that nowadays some prebuilts are actually not bad. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know. As far as preferences go, 8GB of Ram is fine for me and a widescreen would be nice (17 inches or so).

Thank you!

I have a MSI GL63 9SDK that I just got a few weeks ago and it's pretty nice. GTX 1660 Ti, Intel i5-9300h, 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD, with a slot for another M.2 NVMe and a 2.5" HDD or SSD, 8GB RAM (from MSI, upgraded to 16 for dual channel support). Plenty of storage and memory upgrade options.
I was able to overclock the monitor panel to 100Hz with no frame skipping, and I can play all the latest games at great detail setting 1080p and hit that 100Hz mark. I can play COD: MW at ultra 1080p and get just about 100fps on every map besides ground war modes, those are close to 70 or 60 depending.

MSI GL63 9SDK 15.6" Model

I got the laptop on marketplace used for $450, a CRAZY deal. It was brand new, only used for like a week max. I think it retails for like $760, but if it broke tomorrow I'd go by another one. That's how happy I am with it. I have the 15" model but if I was to buy another model if this one broke, I'd probably opt for the 17.3" model for sure.

If you go for this one make sure to do a fresh install of Windows 10 from USB when you receive it. The Windows 10 Activation key is stored on a memory chip on the OEM motherboard so no need to worry about reactivating it. That will get rid of the crappy MSI software (bloatware imo) and Norton, ect. After that just install the stealseries keyboard software and you'd be good to go!

Thanks so much for the detailed recommendation! Sounds right up my alley. As far as a fresh install of Windows 10 goes, would I just get the installer downloaded and placed onto a USB and then just run it? Wouldn't I need the activation key to type in?

Right, you would just download the media creation tool from the Microsoft website and install Windows onto a bootable USB. When you do the install, it should automatically detect the chip on the motherboard and skip the part where you would enter the license key. Sometimes it will not skip, if that happens, all you do is select "I don't have a key" and when the install is done it will have activated it for you; the Windows installer is buggy sometimes. For me specifically though it skipped it on this laptop.

Thanks for the extra info pal. By chance do you have a vendor you recommend I order from?

I know you said like $800.00 above but I’m only seeing it for about $1300.00 or so.

I do see this here though:

Amazon Laptop
Newegg
I'd buy from either of those links, but Amazon first because to their customer service and better return policy.

Nokia Nokia , looking at some other ones from MSI that are 17.3 display. Saw this one but it has different specs than your recommendation. Curious if you think it would likewise be viable or if its performance quality would be a big drop-off? Not too familiar with the GTX’s etc., so I would defer to your judgment before I try to do my own research.

Better processor, much slower GPU. What games are you wanting to play?

I don’t know why I didn’t see your reply to this! And basically just random PC exclusives. I think I will stick with your original suggestion.

Nokia Nokia My reply above would be conditioned on there not being a 17.3” model that performs nearly as good. You mentioned that this model also comes in 17.3”, and that if yours ever went you would opt for it, but I don’t seem to see it.
