This is not entirely true, but wrong completely.
The game can apply patina on specific cars, eg. Tornado, Surfer, Voodoo, and so on - basically "rusty" vehicles.
This patina makes the vehicle look more and more faded, the higher the level. This can give the illusion of another worn colour, but this is not true - only 20 different non-artificial worn colours exists in the game. Driving a vehicle with patina into your garage will remove the patina completely.

Fun fact: The Hydra, P-996 LAZER, Titan, Rhino, and Valkyrie has patina levels too, and are actually their military liveries! This is also the reason you can brightly paint the aircrafts in your Hangar, as storing them in there removes the patina completely.

also the annihilator, savage & besra to add to the list. some old modded or glitched slots can apply those military liverys / camos / rust levels to the vehicles and stick. as you said otherwise that level will always revert back nomatter where they are stored.

That is true! Just tried to make it short and understandable  AFAIK, the patina slots were only possible with a mod menu, if I remember correctly.

yes indeed that is a very good write up and breakdown if i do say so myself classique. thanks for that, i also had no idea the rhino tank would take patina level either since its blacklisted. lol not too many players seem to know about this setting, but it can be seen in game on street spawns in sandy shores or pegusus vehicles.... it would be nice if r* would let us store these normally or perhaps accumulate to the extent over time. it certainly adds a special effect to any paint when its applied. cheers

edit: btw there was a guy on here who had a rusty slot but didnt know where it came from or how he got it, so perhaps it was possible with an old glitch or by accident idk just worth a mention.

There is a difference between patina and dirt. Dirt just randomly appears the more you drive any vehicle - patina kinda works the same way, but is coded in a different way. Unfortunately, if you enter your garage again, the patina level will reset to 0.
sup4m0dz777 sup4m0dz777 already explained the only way to keep the patina in your garage - not possible without a glitch or a "modded" car slot.
