I had a 27" iMac for many years, the late 2013 edition with the i7 and 4GB video card. It served me well but with MacOS still being somewhat limited in certain aspects I decided it was time to go back to Windows. As with all operating systems, people love the prior OS for the most part for a myriad of reasons, most of which is probably because they are familiar with it. Windows 7 is great but lacks support for some of the latest technologies. Additionally, its kind of a pig compared to Windows 10.
While I don't necessarily promte Windows 10 for everyone, even myself, it does run light and fast. The spying is annoying but some of the scripts you can run can disable most of that without compromising your system. After using Windows 10 since release, just as I did Windows 8, I got used to it and don't mind it. Yeah, the control panel kind of got shafted and a bit annoying but its actually a bit more efficient with how it is set up now. I am a network engineer and a senior IT instructor so I get plenty of hands on time with computers and programs of various types.
If it were up to me, I'd remain stagnant in the late 90s with Windows 98 second edition, but that might just be nostalgia kicking in from the golden days of the internet.
