Any tips? I've seen a lot of downvotes on the steam page of the game because of this and I was wondering how to avoid it if i purchase the game.

All can really say is play the game how it should be played, don't break the terms of service or rules. E.g. Don't mod, don't be abusive to others, don't glitch etc etc. You won't get banned for doing nothing wrong and if you do get banned or suspended talk to rockstar, provide proof and show stats you're doing nothing wrong.

I know some pretty sketchy people on this game and they've never been banned, so as long as you're not literally the worst person in the entire world I'm sure you'll be fine lol. Honestly, banning is the least of your worries on GTA, after the hyper-inflation, tryhards, time it takes to grind your money and RP up, etc.

Besides that, you've paid for an X Box/PS4/PC online experience and you've bought the game, so Rockstar isn't in the business of banning people who pay money for and use their services legitimately.

I doubt this is even remotely true, loads of people have been falsely banned for just playing the game hence OP's question. I doubt just playing the game legit will ensure you don't get banned because with the 100's of threads we have seen, you still can get banned if you just happen to be in the same session as a modder.

You have less chance of being banned on Xbox One bc there is little to no hacks and as long as you don't glitch or brag about you hacking/glitching you will be fine

Totally disagree. I've been playing GTA 5 since 2013 and I've never been banned, nor have I ever known or heard of anyone to be banned. Why would Rockstar ban people for no reason? And what about the countless members who have been caught duping or dupe detected and not banned? Why would Rockstar ban a legit, minding-their-own-business player and not the ones they've actually nailed for something, or the ones with trillion dollar bank accounts that obviously didn't acquire that through grinding missions?

Man you have been living under rock or what. C* anti cheat system flags people falsely, about 1-2 months ago, they banned 100's of people falsely only to restore them. I see at least 1 person week banned falsely .. and sure people accuse them of cheating, but there are too many and since the big false ban that happened, I would believe people over R* and the fact you can't appeal is just all around shady. Also go read the steam reviews as OP mentioned.

Just read a few of these threads on the GTA Online Reddit, I am sure 100's are not even reported, people are been banned left right and centre
https://www.reddit.com/r/gtaonline/search?q=falsely+banned&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

Only way not to get banned is to use a console. Just because you have not been banned yet, doesn't mean others are not been falsely banned.

Well maybe then because I play on a console I don't see it, but I've never known banning to be a problem and have never heard from those I know who do play on PC that it is a legitimate issue. I wouldn't avoid buying a game out of fear of something like that, though, because even if banning is as prevalent as you're trying to lead me to believe that it is, then I'd still take the odds considering how many players play on PC.

If you can't appeal it, how did those "falsely" accused of cheating get restored?

The most recent one was by an accident I guess and when R* realized what they did they corrected it, literally 100's were banned over night .. the support ticket system is automated, as soon as mention the word ban, the ticket gets closed, so as long as you don't mention the word ban, you might get lucky and get a human person to look at your ticket. Sometimes but rare you can get yourself unbanned if you speak to the right person ..

The most recent one I am still shaking my head about, he is a retired fire fighter, never modded, never done anything abnormal, he got flagged because of a piece of anti virus software installed. He got banned, and his 3000 hours account deleted. R* unbanned him but his character was wiped .. it's really total BS .. too many threads of people getting banned claimed they didn't cheat to make you think twice .. and we all know R* anti cheat system on PC is very flawed ..

I agree, the story alone is worth buying GTA5 for, but do you really want to work on a character with a 50/50 chance of getting banned and wiped. It is what it is like you say, but it sure sucks for PC players at the moment.

I agree, console players almost never get banned, I must think they protected by Sony and Microsoft in some way .. I could be wrong or consoles just don't have the same ability to cheat and mod like PC's, so they left alone because they considered more secure.

I would agree that PC would have the cheating advantage because you can open and manipulate the source files if you're skilled enough at that sort of thing, whereby I don't know how someone on X Box would be able to do something like that. I know a PC player on GTA IV that was able to insert a replica of his own Volkswagen Beetle into the story mode. And I would imagine there is some sort of hardware or software on consoles that prevents a third party entity like Rockstar from entering your system and poking into your files as Microsoft and Sony have for sure blocked that sort of thing to keep people from hacking consoles or to keep them virus-free. But what sort of cheating happens on PCs and not on consoles that warrants them to be so quick to react like that? I'm only aware of the glitching and whatnot from what I've read on here, but otherwise is cheating really so prevalent on PC that Rockstar does have to be so hard on stopping it?
