Hi all, first time on here since i had my JTAG Falcon back in probably 2011/2
Im a bit out of touch with modding now so ive just acquired a corona 360 on the latest dash im planning on RGH the console

Anyway back on topic...

the disc drive is F'd so i need to replace it to rip the collection of 70 games that came with the console
it has a phillips/liteon DG-16d5s drive, does the drive have to be the exact same model or can it be any other phillips/liteon drive? i know ill have to flash the drive anyway with the cd key but does model make a difference?

Also i want to add a 2.5 inch 2tb hard drive in place of the 250gb that is in the console, what format does this drive need to be?

The d5s can't be hacked or written to at all . You would have to get a ltu2 board or something similar. Once you have the DVD key from the rgh process you can create a hacked firmware with jungleflasher and write it to the ltu2 using something like a usbpro .
And yeah after u rgh the console you can easily use your 2tb hard drive in place of the 250gb one.

I would start by getting the console rgh'd then once successful move on to the drive. Figure out what mobo revision u have so u know what method / parts you need for the rgh.
Btw u can also easily just remove the board from the bad 16d5s and install it in either another known good 16d5s(corona)or a 16d4s(trinity) disc drive or if the laser is bad replace it .

I have a corona v1 judging by pictures ive found, it has the hynix chip and 250gb
ive ordered a nand x and x360 acev3 for the rhg plus little things like pin headers and wire incase the chip didnt come with any, im comfortable soldering so it should be a problem, i had to rip my DJ decks apart and solder new boards inside

Have you got a link for the itu2 board? is it going to be cheaper than getting a replacement optical drive and swapping the guts?
its the drive itself it gets stuck about 1/4 of the way, ive opened the shell of the drive and removed the tray and reinserted it to how it should be, it opened and closed fine 1 time then got stuck again, the pin that goes in the 'rail' of the drive underneath is popping out

Just a thought. But can you not just get a replacement workingdrive and just swap the boards over. Did this in a phat once had no issues as the board was intact. Sound like your referring to the mechanical side of the drive rather than electronical if that makes sense.

the drive mechanism is F'd, electrically it works so maybe just swapping the guts of the drive could work

Yea if the boards can be removed. I haven't taken a slim drive to bits but I doubt they much different to the phats internally?

If it's the rail and pins as you described that the tray moves on then swapping out the internals but keeping Orginal board would work fine.

Find same model drive. And switch the boards. I have done this. It works.

Just curious if your planning to RGH the console why you so worried about the disc drive? You say you have a 70+ collection of games needing to rip... why not rip them with the pc or laptop assuming it has a dl drive? Then you have a ISO file on computer that you can ftp across to console or chuck em on a external hdd
