Hey Guys. We all know the winchester motherboard has been called "Unmoddable". But its not. Its only moddable by team xecuter (if im correct). I've been hearing that theres an exploit out there and people have been booting xell on Winchesters, but why is it not publicly released yet?

If such an exploit has been developed, then because it hasn't been publicly released yet.

I sincerely doubt Team Xecuter have this exploit though, as if they did they would release it, and make some more products for it in order to make more money.
If another team/individual has it then they may not be releasing it because of many reasons. They're not obliged to release exploits they develop. Besides, what's the point? Many, many, more people own Trinities/Coronas/any other motherboard, and if they would need to develop more hardware for the exploit to work, the total costs may be more than the total revenue, as there isn't a huge demand for a Winchester hack, so the total revenue would probably be fairly low.

There is no Winchester mod.
Those who may have achieved it have done some extensive modding, it's simply not worth it considering the sheer amount of Slims and Phats on the market to mod.

I've heard a couple times before, that a inside employee at microsoft, said that the modding and exploiting the winchester is the key to modding and exploiting the xbox one.. So it might be worth modding.

No. The 360's architecture is very different than the xbox one, they use generally the same concept but the implementation is extremely different. The xbox one's version of this system has many more features and is a lot more versatile.

The system is basically a hardware implemented crypto engine that transforms the data as it comes in and out of the cpu. On the 360 its designed to be invisible, 99% of the time you will never know it exists and dont have to deal with it, which is why we can bypass it completely. If your a game dev, you would never directly encounter it unless you were doing something weird with cpu cache management (talking about the xdcbt instruction) and even then, you would have to be doing something extremely weird with cache management in order for the crypto engine to effect your programming (honestly i think the only way itd effect you is if the page tables got corrupted somehow, and if that happened then theres more issues than this system). Because of this, this system was also not publically documented and little is known about it.

Now on the xbox one a similar system exists, but more advanced and a combination of software and hardware, but it runs completely seperate from the actual OS of the xbox one. From what we can tell, ms also uses this system to store or protect their public keys and decryption keys. This means that the system has a role to play in normal operating conditions, the OS has to make calls to it to request keys or perform certain tasks like encryption/decryption/verification. Think of it like the hypervisor of the 360, but with some hardware thrown in and completely seperate from the normal OS and always running and doing everything the 360's version did. Thats how i understand it at least. Sketch knows more than i about this subject however what can be shared is limited.

Now on to how this relates to the winchester, it doesnt. Think of it from a money perspective. Why would MS waste money implementing this new kind of system on a console that they are just waiting to die basically, especially when every other revision of the console is already screwed? On the winchester they probably fixed the reset bug in the cpu, effectively fixing the rgh exploit, maybe fixed some smaller exploits and left it at that.

More reason as to why they wouldnt use the new system instead of the old: when i said 99% of the time you would never notice the crypto engine on the 360, that 1% is when you're dealing with the hypervisor. The hypervisor has to be coded correctly in order for it to not screw up the system, the hypervisor also partially manages it. Extending on this, all consoles run the same hypervisor, its not different for a specific motherboard revision. Infact i think everything after the 2bl is the same on all consoles, therefore in order for the winchester to run the same hypervisor, it must use the same system, otherwise the hypervisor would likely screw with it and cause issues. The reason im assuming the winchester runs the same hypervisor is because there is code in it to deal with the winchester's cpu revision (some registers need to be handled specifically), however this does not occur in areas dealing with the crypto engine. That is handled the same for all motherboards, going all the way back to xenon.

In an email sent to them,

“Sorry still nothing for RGH Winchester yet.

We still working on something cool for Xbox 360, but is a few months away,
and hopefully it will work also on Winchester, but we are still a while away
from releasing details about the product.

Stay tuned to our TX main website, or TX forums, when there is news it will
be posted there!

Thanks.
