Hey guys,

So I have come across a problem that I am very intrigued to solve.
About 2 years ago I had broken the XBox360 by doing well nothing, but something at the same time.

So I remember when origins came out and I wanted the map pack. However my black ops 2 at the time was deleted so I wanted to re-install the game. I had downloaded another black ops 2 and pasted it in. There was 1 file that couldn't copy and I was like that's fine, I don't need it. So I decided to run the XeX file and boom the xbox froze on the black ops 2 logo. I then waited 5 mins before I decided to hold the power button and force it off, then later on unplugging it. After that the xbox wouldn't boot. I then took the hard drive out and it booted fine, I then put the hard drive back in while the xbox was on to delete the file (could've been a virus or something) and the xbox crashed the second I put the hard drive in. Later on I tried to take hdd in and out and still nothing worked, no posting, no nothing. I was very young and had half a brain back then (I'm into coding, wasn't good at it 3 years ago).

So I decided to just give up. Today, I came back to this desert treasure and decided I want to fix it. After googling I came to a conclusion that the nand might be ****ed and I have to get someone to reflash it.

I just wanted to know what outcomes could it be.

What happens when I start xbox now u may ask.

  • Red light comes on
  • Green RGH light blinks once every 5 seconds
  • When the light blinks there's a little high pitch noise until it disappears (could be the LED)
I tried to connect my controller and it recognizes it but after it does the 360 green light then blink blink, the light just keeps spinning in a 360 degree motion and stays on, turns off instantly when the xbox is off. I was really confused, wtf happened to the xbox when that game is on. I really doubt it was a kid that put a virus on. (Was the highest seeded game on piratebay back then by a trusted member to my knowledge).

I don't really see a problem, I think its the NAND and if it is, how can I fix it for free without paying someone?

I know you have to open it up and connect a wire to it then apparently the other side has a usb on it and u can control the nand from there ( I am very bad with xbox360/ eletronic programming)

I code in C#, Python and a bit of java. So I am quite clueless when it comes to physical electronic coding with ancient language.

Would any expert be able to assist me?

Was afraid you'd say that.

http://www.modchips.co.nz/modding-tools/4-team-xecuter-nand-x.html

I'll do a bit more research for repairs. Costs $80-90 to repair via pro

or $42 for myself to do it. (currency in NZD)

Do you think it is well worth to try it manually? Because the upside to a nand-x is if this ever happened again, then I'd be able to manually re-flash it.
You'll need a soldering iron and some solder too, along with flux. I'd only recommend it if you are going to do several consoles
If you have a copy of the nand laying around I could do it for you for the cost of postage + $20 I'm happy to show you that I have the equipment. I'm also located in au

Thanks for your help!

I will try find a lower quote for repairs.

I have soldering Iron and solder w/ flux. Just not the programmer tool. Won't buy it as I would probably only need to use it once.

Thanks again!

i learned the hard way why you need flux, 1, even using resin core the solderpoints crack making them unreadable, 2. the heat makes marks on the board, i used it as practice board and still do cause my soldering still sucks, the console turns on but it doesn't let me install updates at all.

My first 3 installs I didn't use flux. They are fine

Lmao. You must not know what flux does if you didn't use it. Always use flux if you don't easier to fry the board or burn a pad off. Just cause your good at soldering doesn't make it a good idea to not use flux.

You'll end up with dry joints. Learnt from my dad who was an Electrical Engineer, always clean the area and use a tiny amount of flux. I use a flux pen that has a tiny abrasive fibreglass tip, just a tiny rub on the joint before contact and it's a clean and has coating of flux. That and a nice thin 60/40 leaded multi-core solder.
