I've been doing my research and for the most part I think I understand what to do. Just to clarify is this all I need to rgh an xbox slim(yet to purchase to will get the right one).

to read the nand

http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/product.php?productid=17897&cat=294&bestseller=Y

and the glitch chip?

http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/Xecuter-CR4-XL-RGH/JTAG-SLIM-and-PHAT-USA-Canada.html

Obviously I need the soldering appliances but apart from that would I be good to go? My confusion comes from the mass amount of options out there. And a lot of outdated content.

It depends which Slim you get.

If it's a Trinity, then yes that's all you need.

If it's a Corona, it depends which version of Corona you get:

Corona v1 - CR4 | JR-Programmer 2
Corona v2 - CR4 | 4GB R/W QSB
Corona v3 - CR4 | JR-Programmer 2 | Post Fix Adapter
Corona v4 - CR4 | 4GB R/W QSB | Post Fix Adapter
Corona v5 - CR4 | JR-Programmer 2 | Post Fix Adapter
Corona v6 - CR4 | 4GB R/W QSB | Post Fix Adapter

Thanks for the reply! So it would be easier to do on a trinity because then no qsb?

so it turns out I have a corona v1 rgh to play with. Are there any good guides on how to install on this console? Would the same method still apply?

The JR Programmer is used to read the nand, then it lets you write the ECC to the nand which will allow you to boot to Xell to get your CPU key, then you can make the XeBuild Image which is the hacked code and hacked dash which you can write to the nand via the JR Programmer or a USB stick using Xell. The CR4 allows you to glitch the console so you can boot Xell and ultimately the XeBuild.

You are correct in saying that the QSB is only used so you can plug in your JR Programmer, and it also allows you to use the "rater" program so you can log your boot times. I only ever used a QSB on my first install, and never have since, they are not worth it IMO.

The first time I did this I didn't know what was up and what was down, read up as many tutorials as you can, it will all start to make sense.

thanks for clearing that up and referring to your previous post, "J-Runner common/pics directory." Is that in the jrunner application itself?

One good thing with a qsb is that it's like soldering 5 wires at once because you position it, solder a point and then all you gotta do is solder the rest of the points without having to hold and position wire etc

A better way to make the QSB would be to have actual header pins so they go into the header holes in the PCB, a lot of people have trouble soldering them as they have to bridge the gap between the contacts and the header holes. And since the header holes are already filled with solder you would just have to heat them up and the pins would go in the holes already soldered.

I actually have dual row header pins that I use for reading the nand, and leave them in place, I have female header sockets on the ends of my nand reader wires so they just plug in.
