I have: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3258 @ 3.20GHz
and I found a: Intel Core i7-950 Quad-Core 3.06 GHz LGA 1366 Processor kinda close to me on an ad.

I know **** about computers so a yes or a no would be nice.
Or if anyone know anything cheaper/better please recommend.

Alright, I'll wait for more feedback. Others are saying the I7 is way better than what I have.
Current gen i7's are, if its for gaming stick to what you have.
Older gen i7's =/= new gen

I would stick with what you have and upgrade within your current socket. You would need a new motherboard to change to the i7. Sell current CPU and you're basically at the point where the deal on the old i7 isnt even a big deal.

Do you know any alternatives?

The i7-950 is absolutely better than a dual core Pentium, regardless of how much older the i7 is. However, it's incompatible with your current motherboard and it makes no sense to go with an older socket than you already have. It'd be cheaper to buy an LGA1150 i7, keep your current mobo and replace the Pentium then sell it or keep it as a spare or something. You can get a 4770/4790(k) on eBay pretty cheap now, or if you're not interested in overclocking at all, you could get a Xeon E3 1230/1231 V3. Oooor, you can pick up a 4440/4460 on eBay for less than $150 now could go with that if an i5 will suffice for your needs.
