Ever since Xbox One and PS4 was released, Microsoft`s console have been under constant critique that their hardware is much less capable than PS4`s hardware.
After all the PS4 have 18 compute units (1152 cores) while Xbox One had to settle with 12 compute units (768 cores).

This is about to change. Microsoft and AMD have been secretly working together to make a more powerful GPU for the Xbox One, and since the GPU is embedded in one chip, it means Xbox One will get a new APU. One can wonder what architecture the CPU part of the APU will be based on (Zen perhaps?), but some console users have noticed the name "Xbox One Polaris" flashed during Netflix usage with their Xbox One.

We know that AMD`s upcoming next generation GPU architecture will be called Polaris, so it seems that Microsoft is about to release a refreshed Xbox One based on the newest GPU architecture.

Well my current Xbox has a messed up Disk Drive.
Well that would work out for you but I hope there's a way they can just update it without needing to release a new Xbox One.

Well if they're putting in new hardware from AMD, they would probably have to sell as a new type of console.

That's what I thought but I hope not. Maybe they'll release it as a slim at E3 this year, or sooner.

A lot of things could possibly happen, some more feasible that others. I'm not too keen if it would be possible to 'attach' something to the console to introduce this hardware change without needing to buy a new console, but hey, it's 2016, anything is possible! Although, if some consoles that are already out there are showing that they are Polaris models, that could imply that some if not all of the change can be done via an update, which isn't really likely. Worst case scenario, it'll be part of a new Xbox One bundle. Which we should have all seen coming, as it's just how these things work now. The initial launch console, then the next few months/years to streamline and minimize all of the components as much as possible while increasing it's overall stability.

Edit: Since you just posted, I recall reading somewhere that they said they'd never make a 'slim' Xbox One console. It was a tweet from Spencer saying that rumors of an already approaching slim model was in the works for a 2015 release that shut the rumor down.

I just hope I don't have to buy another console just for the update and can just get an update. I knew something else would happen eventually just like how the Xbox One Elite has the hybrid drive. I thought I saw something about them saying that too. I could really care less if there's a slim or not even though it would be nicer.

Would be wicked if they did a trade in program. Like, give your old Xbox One in and you can just get the upgraded one. But then I guess they wouldn't really make any money..

Sadly they wouldn't do that because it would cost them more money than they would make probably. I'm sure GameStop would have some type of deal where you get more credit towards a new Xbox One if you trade it in. I'm sure it wouldn't be that much though.

I really hope that I don't have to buy a new console, I was lucky enough just to get the damned thing. Didn't they say at a press conference or something that you would never have to upgrade your console ever again? I clearly remember hearing something like that before the One was released.
Now, to get off topic, I like how in OP's pic, you can see the ultraviolet rays being emitted by the Kinect. That's pretty cool.

There's been talks and rumors about new, upgraded hardware versions of the X1 and PS4 for a long time.

I don't think Microsoft or Sony will actually do it though. Yes, a better console would be nice but then there's issues that come with that.

Such as:

Gen 1 users feeling burnt

Could confuse and make things more complicated for the consumer when they have to choose different makes and models of the console instead of just an X1 or a PS4.

There could be issues with developers and their games catering more to the better hardware while the old versions start to struggle due to less optimization for their hardware.

Essentially, developers might have to make two versions of the same game for the same platform due to hardware differences and to take advantage of the upgraded hardware.

Just a couple of burning questions if this was to happen.

Maybe the games would be the same but just run better on the better hardware. Then again, you run into the above issue even then of the consumers feeling burnt.

I probably wouldn't buy a whole new Xbox just for this seeing as I rarely use mine as it is. If there was a trade in program of some sort then I may do it, assuming that this is all true.

Maybe you can do the trade in for a small fee of maybe around 50-100$? Just a thought.

I was reading that the Xbox one gets most it's power from a virtual server.... If this is true I'd say a lot of performance upgrades would be done to the server... I might sound crazy but I did read it... I don't know how true it is though

All that bought the Xbox one (current) must be mad.. But the idea to trade in is good to hear.
