Is there a forum that gives programs needed to view/edit the source code, links to the programs and the basic on how to use them. I have a good idea on how to read and manipulate some codes, but I am having a hard time finding the programs. If there is a forum is there anyway we can get that pinned? Thanks

I've been told that this site is not for finding help to mod GTA, but a place for people that are already modding to discuss their awesome new mod, kind of a who's got a bigger D contest where beginners are not welcome, a place where secrets are found and kept tight by their beholders. I am hoping that this is not true. I am hoping that this is a forum were all peoples, novice to expert who share a common interest can learn, help and share. Please prove the rumors wrong.

I don't know exactly what you're looking for but I'm sure it can be found by using the search option or going to the actual GTA Mod Forum. If you go to said forum you will see who the moderator is and can ask if he has seen a thread like what you need. There are thousands of post that you can look thru.

But hitting us with "what you've been told".... I don't really know how I feel about that

I have done some MILD modding of command and conquer zero hour and battlefield 1942. I have found forums for modding both and each have had a pinned basics thread with links to view every file extension in the game. GTA has .dat, .xft, .xtd, .meta, .xmf, .rpf and a few others and I have found a few threads that have programs, but some don't work, and others come with no instruction on how to use them. When you get down to the meat and potatoes, I feel like I am running around in circles. How can I just see the code, where is what and so on. A full tutorial broken down barney style as we would say. Most other dedicated modding sites have this, and with the following GTA modding has, I'm surprised there isn't one. So basically I am asking for everything compiled into one thread. That's not too much to ask is it... lol.

I'm looking for the programs to view game files, what each extension type means and a basic directory where information is found. And just so we're clear, I am not asking for all of this just for myself, but for the forum. This is the kind of information that should be compiled, organized, pinned and easily accessed.

So if someone were talking trash, you wouldn't want to know? I'm not trying to hit you with anything, I'm just letting you guys know what kind of reputation your forum has received. It's not an attack.

So, I'm interested in why you joined
I am interested in modding and want to learn what I can about it. I want to learn what I can about code. It interests me and I felt that a forum was a place for people with like ideals can come together learn and discuss.

No, the other guy is correct. This isn't a help forum. One third is noob looking for cheap hakcs. Another third is people who already understand how to mod so they flex it. The last third of the population is people trying to learn how to hack, but nobody wants to help besides the other people trying to learn (which dont know ****). It's too much work to explain every last thing to a noob. I could go on to explain to you every extension, but you wont know why it has to be that way. I could try to explain to you what the stack and heap is, and how to reverse engineer PPC, or code programs in C# but I cant. It's kinda like this. You don't simply learn how to mod. You learn all the skills used to mod while say for example going to college, or creating a game. Then one day you realize how easy it really is mod and you try it. If you want a tip. Go learn how to make a game in C# or C++, and come back a year from now. You'll be able to crawl by then... maybe walk a few years later.

PS: Premium isn't going to help you either. It has some more information, but not enough to help people without understanding of code

Completely understandable, thank you for being straight forward.

M MudMarshall Every single thing you are looking for is in a stickied topic under the GTA V Modding forum. http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/thr...dding-releases-programs-xbox-360-ps3.1158116/
Under the spoiler"Need to know what each tool is used for?" you can find all the descriptions for everything you need.
it's been right in front of you this whole time. you just aren't looking hard enough.

I have a tendency to do that, lol, ask my wife... thank you.

I find it to be the opposite, the short time i have been apart of se7ens i have learned alot. This is mainly because of the helpfull people. Even when the forum isnt enough, many members are willing to take the conversation farther to either skype or aim. But i guess thats just my 2 cents.
