Hey guys so my xbox was kicked while playing call of duty advanced warfare and my disc had a perfect cirlce around it that I think is called laser burn. I've tried a bunch of stuff such as chap stick and tooth paste but it won't seem to work. The weird thing is that I can actually get the game going and switch to the different menus. I can even get into a multiplayer lobby but on the loading screen with the aw logo it says disc unreadable. Someone get back to me asap cause I really want to play the new maps. If anyone downloaded from the xbox marketplace I can license transfer my season pass for the game.

Try to download the disc onto your hard drive so when you run it, it doesn't physically spin the disc.

That sucks. If someone you know has AW you can install it to your HDD then use your disc. Should work.

Yeah I'm thinking about trying that. I just really screwed up my disc trying to buff it out

Laser burn? You'll have to buy a new disc.

Well first let me tell you this.
The reason you can load parts of your game is because the game is written in sections...so let me show you like this...outer to inner obviously. Keep in mind this is only an illustration and I can not confirm this.

8 |-------- Extra Game Data --------|
7 |------- Multiplayer maps -------|
6 |------ Multiplayer data ------|
5 |----- Campaign Levels -----|
4 |---- Campaign Data ----|
3 |--- Sub Menus ---|
> Campaign - 1
> Multiplayer - 2
2 |-- Main Menu --|
1 |- Initial Load -|

So say you were on disc level 4 when it was kicked. It laser burned disc level 4 and 5 with parts of 3.
Every other portion of the game is still readable, but unreliable.
So it reads the game (level 1), loads the menu (2), then you go to a multiplayer menu (3.2), and then the laser skips to levels 6 & 7 because it has no need to read the previous levels of data.
However if portions of the data are messed up...the data is corrupted making the disc unreadable.

I hope that kind of helps explain it a bit more.

As for fixes. You can't. It's laser burned..can you fix a piece of burned paper? Or return burnt wood back to it's normal state? No. Same idea applies here.
It's burned the data on the disc. The data is lost.
The only thing you can do is replace it. Sad to say.

However, if you had installed it prior. Things do it differently. It reads the game info (disc level 1) and then it stops reading the disc because the data is already installed on the HDD.
Why can't you install it? Because when you install it, it reads every layer/level of data...it stops if their is something wrong. Which there is, obviously.

Yeah I get what your saying and all of it makes sense. I ended up throwing my disc at the wall through frustration and it shattered everywhere lol. I found a friend that had it and just licensed transferred it to me. Thanks for going into detail with everything and thanks to everyone that was soo quick to reply to this thread. I guess I can say my question has been answered.
