I am just going to start this thread by saying this is my opinion of what I think about these two companys. Some of this info provided might not be true(it probably is.)

AMD: AMD's GPUs are for people who don't want to spend alot but don't want to get a really crappy card. AMD does have high end cards like the R9 295X2 that is a complete beast.(you can find it here- http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/r9) Their cards are (apparently) loud and run hot but if you have good cooling and foam pads on the inside to block out some sound, you are good. AMD's card 'R9 270' Is cheap, around 200$. But that card is relatively powerful and is very good for lower end PCs.(I would recommend getting the Gaming version if you want the most out of it.) So in conclusion AMD can be high end at times but brings you a mid to high end experience. (you can also find the R9 270 Gaming Edition here - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127769

nVidia: nVidia's cards are extremely powerful, an example of that is the GTX 780Ti and the GTX Titan, the only downside to getting one of these cards is they are going to be expensive. So you probably wouldn't get one for your first PC.(Because you're probably not packing 1000$ just for the GPU alone.) But, there is cheaper GPUs that nVidia makes like the GTX 980 there most advanced card yet.(500$-700$) or you could get a GTX 960 ( http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487091) for only $255. The GTX 960 is powerful and affordable and you can find some benchmarks here - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-960,4038-6.html . So in conclusion nVidia is a high end GPU company that you can trust them that there cards will bring you the optimal experience. (most of the time)

AMD- Price to performance. They are very cheap and produce great gaming cards.
Nvidia- If you have lots of money, go all out on their cards.
To be actually honest I have a GTX GPU but I want to get the R9 280X in one of my PC's.

Each company has more benefits than what was listed, I'm mainly talking about exclusive features and what not. Nvidia is just kinda high end compared to amd, but amd performs pretty much just as well

Only card from Nvidia that is close to price performance ratio is 970 which is not that good anymore as the 290/290x have dropped heavily all other cards are **** price performance at this time but that is because the 900 series is new. Never recommend the 960 though its completely inferior to the 285, 280 & 280X for way more money (all 3 cost under $200)

So AMD wins for price performance ratio but AMD cards have very high heat output & power consumption and until the 390X releases Nvidia has the top of the line single card and has for a long time (290X best double card though contrary to popular 970 fanatics)

Currently AMD has better features like Freesync, Mantle and other exclusives while Nvidia's Gsync was basically dead on arrival and Physx is essentially dead it would have been still used if they didn't block ability to do Physx on non Nvidia cards but them doing that made it so no devs wanted to touch it.

But AMD drivers have a bit of an issue with CPU utilization on DX games however that is going to be fixed in 2 ways
1) Its not an issue on DX12/Mantle
2) They hired new people to fix this issue specifically.

Nvidia typically has smoother drivers and less likely to crash randomly however their cards give less bang for buck and some people pay be willing to spend a few extra dollars for that stability but I am not.

AMD has had big issues on many reference models of their cards however the 300 series and even the 285 showed improvements if anyone remembers the 290 reference model would run hotter than the Sun (Scientists also blamed it for global warming) while non reference models could be like 15 degrees cooler at full load giving much better performance (Thermal throttling)

I hate Nvidia because of their behavior Nvidia shoots themself in the foot all the time same **** they do with AntiAliasing instead of accepting SMAA as industry standard they would rather tell companies not to use it and use their version instead as SMAA runs good on Nvidia & AMD cards (and look better/less weight than Nvidia's AA even on Nvidia cards)

Then we had the whole gameworks fiasco where they lowered game performance because it made games run shittier on AMD/Intel and was less harmful to Nvidia that behavior is bulls***.

AMD vs Nvidia is similar to AMD vs Intel one typically has the highest end product but one gives better Performance per Dollar.

I like Nvidia for the better looking cards, I'm not talking about just reference design but for example the G1 Gaming by WINDFORCE is so damn goooooooooooooooooood. Not many good looking AMD cars, yes looks is a big thing to me. Shadowplay is god damn amazing and I just have a more premium feel with nvidia. Also the lower heat is nice under full load my 970 doesn't go above 65 degrees and that's with a pretty big overclock.

Only need the classified version if he plans to OC like crazy, otherwise any 3rd party manufacturer with an aftermarket cooler should be fine.
Yeah but why not..? lol

Yeah but why not..? lol
Because the classified retails on newegg for $690 whereas the MSI GTX 980 Gaming (IMO the best 3rd party one) retails for $550 and can be overclocked quite well. That's a $140 difference that can be hard to justify.

The only reason to get the classified is if you plan on water cooling it and really want to push the limits which most people won't be doing.

I wish, unfortunately I meant $650 for the whole build lol.

Build I did for a friend. I would suggest getting a 32-64GB SSD for caching to speed the computer up. You could possibly get a little bit better graphics card since this build is only like $550 or so. The wireless adapter in that build is really sh!tty and broke on him already but everything else works great and he really loves the build, especially for the price.
