Yep,just like how I did the xbox 360 controller LED tutorial now its time to do the xbox one controller! Im going to break this up into two spoilers. One for taking apart the controller and the other for installing the LEDs. If you need any help with this, post a comment below and tag/quote me so I can see it.

Note:Im only going into enough detail to take off the shell and get to the LED.

WARNING! Read this before going on!
Taking apart this controller is not easy if you have never done this stuff before. Microsoft changed the whole design up and I highly recommend if you are not use to working with very small items, never worked on xbox stuff,or have shaky hands that you do not do this. Im not responsible if you break your own controller or damage anything else in the process. Do this at your own risk.

Tools/items needed
-T-8 screwdriver with security bit/hole
-T-6 screwdriver
-Tweezers,fine point
-Soldering iron
-Electrical solder
-Sand paper
-0603/0805 SMD LEDs of your choice of color. I recommend that you use 0805 LEDs.
-Something that you can use to get into a small crack, like a flat head screwdriver for example.
-OPTIONAL! Play and charge kit. It helps and I recommend it.

Taking apart the controller
Use the tool to crack open the sides. Or you can use your fingers if you try hard enough. You will hear a crack noise and thats good! You didnt break it.

Go around the edges to get it off. If its a new controller it will be a bit hard to get off.

Your controller should look like this now.

Take off the sticker and grab the T-8 screwdriver. Their is a total of 5 of these screws you need to take off.

Now your controller should look like this

Now you look on the back side. You need to de-solder the rumble packs and the wires to the triggers.

De-solder the wires.

See this screw and the other one on the other side, grab your T-6 screwdriver and un-screw them. Do this after you de-solder the wires.

Your controller should look like this now.

Now you need to take of the triggers. I found it easier to take it off by going on the backside and lifting up. It should just pop right off.

It will pop off like this

So now you popped them off. Go to the front side of the controller now.

To take off the d-pad,you need to take off this little ring. Just go to the top of it and you will see two little hooks. Grab your pick or use your fingers and lift up and pop it off.

Your controller should look like this.

Now to take off this part. Push on the guide button, while doing that grab the front of it and lift it up.

Your controller should look like this now

Go to the back side of the controller and look at the mic port. Grab it like iam in the pictures and lift up. You will feel like it does not want to move but it will.

See those screws, grab your T-6 and un-screw all 6 of them.

Now just lift it up and take it out of the shell.

Now your controller is taken apart!

If you already know how to take the controller apart, click on the spoiler below.

LED Mod
This is actually more easier to do than the old xbox 360 controller because they went to only one LED instead of four. Left pad is negative and the right pad is positive.

I like to float off the LED with solder.

Make sure the pads are smooth.

Grab your tweezers and hold the LED down with one hand, than with your other hand grab your soldering iron and apply some electrical solder to the tip and solder one side down to get it to stay and than finish the other side!

BAM! That easy.

Can you provide a link for where to buy the LED's, or what size they are? Sorry if I missed it. Good tutorial. It's surprising how different yet similar these are to the original 360 controllers.

EDIT: Sorry, saw the area where you say what kind.
I recommend that you use 0805 LEDs.

One thing to add,

Be careful when assembling this control back. If you break off this one little part you will have to use a cord to power your controller on.

I remember using your tutorial for the Xbox 360 controllers. It's nice to see you make one for the Xbox One, I can't wait to try it!

Is there any reason why you recommend 0805 SMD LEDs? Are they brighter/easier to work with? Thanks for the tutorial.

Easier to work with since they're bigger.
