Hello, I have a softmodded original xbox with a 320gb HDD.

I've been considering putting a chip in it, but I was just curious if there is really any other advantage that a modchip can offer over a softmod.

Not really these days. Imo the only advantages are having multiple bioses without having to flash over the stock one, and not having to lock hdd. But then again if it's a Version 1.5 or older you can just flash the bios and and have all the same features.

This is very true, now a days I only have one chip with ind-bios flashed to it for when I do 128mb upgrades, when done simply flash the xbox.

Otherwise just as others have stated softmod is fine unless you are interested in various bioses

Even then, tsop is easier and cheaper provided you have a 1.5 or older.

It's not worth it.

I have a chipped xbox and it's a pain in the *** since it's not soldered-on (uses pogo-pins)
There's no reason to get a modchip nowadays
