I'm making this topic to clear up some information about modding patches since I've seen some posts asking about them.
  1. Like TU7 for Modern Warfare 2, the script files are compiled but they are inside of the fastfiles now instead of the xex.
  2. "But the _createfx scripts are not compiled!" They get compiled with a different function from what a normal gsc would be compiled with, and would ignore any code you add.
The only way you could modify scripts would be to either create a script compiler yourself, or somehow edit the XEX heavily to load an uncompiled script (The code is still there, it's just not used.)


tl;dr No modded lobbies using edited scripts.

why are we always allowed to modify the timescale for every cod first and if we changed the value of that dvar, surely we could change the value of more dvars,
right?

Nop not true there will be some dvars you can edit and alot you cant

The person who started the infections could infect any dvar he wanted to. I'm guessing he quit infecting after super speed and slow mo.

Them guys havn't a clue what a TU7 or Dvar so I think they will still ask lol..

There has to be another way to run the scripts................. hmmmmmm.................. maybe a good time to actually look at the files

There hasn't been any modded lobbies using edited scripts. Only recovery services. And if teh1337 gets counted as a big time modded you gotta include every other kid that made a patch_mp for MW2.

think about this.....hire someone to decompile those files in Russia or India. it only costs about 100-750 dollars for them to develop an app so one file would be less... also there MAY be a decompiled mw3 beta game on the web, look around and use a comparison program, you might be able to decrypt it seeing the difference between the two files

Also one more thing... if somone lives near MIT, or any other major tech college like NYT, the economy is tight, and you may be able to get a student (obviously smart) to do it for a higher price if you cant find the developers in Russia/India. Im thinking they would want $500+ good luck hope this helps

I suggest you look up the difference between decompiling and decrypting as decompiling has no relevance here, the game wont execute the code unless its compiled...hence why caboose said somebody would need to write a compiler and this is far more complex than decrypting.

This is true, as far as they are concerned, they think it is possible to put a flying unicorn in as a gun. hmm...well, actually...
