Java Whats more useful/what are the major differences?

So I've been pretty bored lately so I started picking up JavaScript via codecademy. I'm pretty much wondering what are the major differences between java and JavaScript (in plain english), and which is more useful in the long run.

One is essentially a toy, designed for writing small pieces of code, and traditionally used and abused by inexperienced programmers.

The other is a scripting language for web browsers.

Java and JavaScript shouldn't be compared, as they are completely distinct, unrelated languages. Javascript is a scripting language used on websites, and Java is an all-around language that can be used on multiple platforms and used commonly in the software development world. In laymen's terms, Javascript is strictly for website scripting, and Java is used mainly in backend operations, desktop applications, and numerous other applications.

As it is a scripting language it can be implemented in most applications, although the predominant use is in web applications.
