So I'm at that point where there's just nothing to do. I just hit level 26.

Everyone says 27+ for the Nightfall, 28+ for VoG... and I'm sitting here at 26. Crucible is getting boring, and I don't get any gear from engrams. What should I do?

Feels like I hit a wall and the game is getting boring because of it.

I had to buy all my gear from the vanguard/crucible/xur so I would say do that then work on upgrades and then raid.

You can do Nightfall at 25, that's when I first did one. Of course it will be a lot harder though. For the Vault of Glass you can do it at 26 but it's a lot harder so you're better off waiting until you're 27 or 28. For some armor you can do the queens bounties and then do the queens missions for some legendary armor. That might help or you can just buy some legendary armor from the Vanguard Quartermaster, Crucible Quartermaster, Etc... If it get's boring than try taking a break for a day or play with other people you know and just mess around. I hope this helps...

Need to know what your gear looks like for us to give you advice.
If you're 26, you're probably full legend or have an exotic. So the next step is to get ascendant shards to upgrade your gear.

  • You get either 2 shards or energies from your daily public event (must get gold tier) and for each one after you have a chance to get 1 shard/energy. There appears to be a cap at 5 rewards (not counting daily) from public events.
  • Saving your motes of light, you can buy an exotic engram from Xur every weekend. This will net you 3 shards.
  • Blue/purple engrams can give shards. So pray to the RNGesus every time you go to the cryptarch. If you get any legendary armor, you can break it down for 2/3 shards (it's random).
  • VoG raid, sure people reccomend you be 27/28, but your raid won't wipe endlessly because one person is lvl 26.

This is where the real grind starts, it's going to take you 1-2 days for each upgrade depending on your luck. It sucks, but it's the best you can do since Queen's Wrath has been patched and her gear no longer gives shards.

Do engrams drop there?

I only have the Queen's helmet and chest plate. Both are fairly upgraded, although not maxed yet. My gauntlets and legs are both fully upgraded blues. Thanks for all of the recommendations. I need 7 Strange Coins to get the Suros Regime so I guess I'll be working on that for now.

Ahhh. Well, if all you need are legs and arms, you can get both in a week with marks (buy one with Vanguard, the other with Crucible). Once you hit full legndary gear, that's when the real wall starts. Only getting enough shards to upgrade 1 time every 1-2 days. :/

Having multiple characters helps. Using 2-3 characters to focus on gearing up one speeds up the process.

Yeah, I was thinking about starting another character here shortly. The problem is that people usually just make 2-3 of the same class, but I really dislike the Titan I made, so I don't know what I'm going to do yet.

Thanks for your help!

I have a Warlock and a Hunter, lets me get 400 marks every 2 weeks. With that I can break down to 6 legs/arms/chests for 12-18 shards. Plus doing the public event dailies and random drops from blue/purple engrams, you can net 15-20 shards a week with just 2 characters.

Since engrams can be put in the vault and legendary/exotic engrams can give random class items, the only real benefit of making the same exact class multiple times is if you want to increase your chances of getting raid gear for that class.

So if you don't plan on doing 2-3 raids per week, making any class will still speed up the process of getting your "main" to 29.
