_-Borderlands-2-Captain-Scarlett-and-Her-Pirates-Booty-_.jpg

I am making this thread to post different articals from different websites about the upcoming DLC they will b copy and paste and in spoiler tags.

Already capped out in Borderlands 2? Looking for an extra challenge? Don’t worry yourself, because Gearbox is about to launch its first downloadable content campaign - and as you might expect from the world of Pandora, it’s suitably huge, wacky and at times horrifically odd.

In Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, you get to shake hands (metaphorically - one of her hands has been replaced with a metal hook) with the one-eyed, titular female swashbuckler, and do her bidding in the unlocked deserts of Pandora. Well, officially you’re working with her, but she seems to think you’re a convenient new addition to her pack of minions.

The objective? Scarlett is looking to complete a compass that will lead her to a buttload of rare treasures. The problem is that this compass has been broken up into four parts. She already has one piece, but it’s your job to hunt down the others. You do this by invading the domains of rival pirates, scouring the sands of the Docks and beyond, and living it up in the dilapidated holiday resort of Oasis.

You’d probably think that a location with the charming name of Oasis doesn’t have an awful lot going for it. You’d be right - it’s designed like your typical generic Spanish holiday town, with coloured houses and villas built into the mountainside and a boardwalk leading to nothing but dry sands. Its population is a lonely holiday clerk that goes to great lengths to be your best buddy. To the point of hacking your ECHO device to speak to you. Awkwaaaarrd.

Did I mention that this clerk in particular is so lonely that he has taken to mannequinning a number of already-dead residents, slapped megaphones to them and acts ‘in character’ as these people as if they were alive? Yeah. You save his life from a gang of ninja pirates though (or are they pirate ninjas?) and he owes you a favour to progress in the campaign, so thankfully he ends up being relatively harmless.

You spend a lot of time exploring Oasis before you even get to meet Captain Scarlett - in order to reach her, you’re tasked with building a special new vehicle for the Catch-a-Ride system, known as a Sand Skiff. These are like hovercrafts that can glide effortlessly over the sands of Pandora. They’re also good for mashing up small sandworms. Unfortunately, said sandworms are just part of the troubles you’ll need to face in order to find all the parts necessary to build the Sand Skiff.

During my time with the new DLC pack, I had a chance to get to grips with a maxed-out Mechromancer. Gaige became available to download over the weekend, and let me tell you, when she reaches Level 50 she’s a real force to be reckoned with. Rocking her floating killer robot, Deathtrap, the Mechromancer can unlock insane perks to beef herself and her mechanical friend considerably.

Such perks include giving Deathtrap the ability to restore shields to allies, shoot laserbeams at long-range enemies, and even the chance to be fused with elemental powers - provided you shoot him with an elemental weapon first. He can help restore health, and give Gaige an added shield bonus when out on the prowl.

At a slight expense of positive stats, your class can also increase other stats dramatically - Anarchy Stacks build up when you kill an enemy or unload your clip without manually reloading, and offer improved gun damage at the cost of a slight accuracy reduction. Similar perks include a damage boost in favour of a smaller magazine size. Ultimately, she’s far from the “Girlfriend Mode” that has been described of it, and to me feels like one of the most interesting classes in the game.

You’ll need all the power you can muster, whichever class you rock as, because Captain Scarlett doesn’t exactly attract the prettiest crowd. As you can see from the screenshots, there are some new enemies contained in the DLC pack that all have new movement patterns, resistances and strengths. Be it the Anchor Men - beefy guys with spike anchors for hands - the rotund Buccaneers or the Super Badass Shock Skags that dwell in a rival captain’s cavernous hideout, your skill will be tested.

If nothing else, this is clearly only the start of Gearbox upping the ante on seasoned Borderlands players. I imagine future DLC packs will be similarly tough - and twice as satisfying to complete.

Borderlands 2: Captain Scarlett and Her Pirates’ Booty is released tomorrow.

If you remember a few days back, we recently reported on leaked information regarding an upcoming DLC for Borderlands 2 that seemed heavily centered around a pirate theme. Turns out, this DLC most certainly is setting sail!

According to joystiq, this upcoming expansion, titled Captain Scarlet and Her Pirate’s Booty, will be making it’s way on to your platform of choice October 16th. You may remember that this was the original date at which Borderlands 2 first DLC character, Gaige the Mechromancer, was supposed to release.

As predicted, this campaign expansion is set to future numerous the following:

A new area called ‘Oasis’, described by president of Gearbox Software, Randy Pitchford, as a dried up landscape that’s currently occupied by bandits.
Seraph Crystals are the new currency for this upcoming DLC.
A Sand Skiff vehicle.
Four new bosses: Captain Scarlett, The Leviathan, Hyperius the Invincible, and Master Gee the Invincible.
One of the raid bosses can only be farmed once a day. Due to a lockout that prevents this mysterious raid boss multiple times.
Every character, including Gaige the Mechromancer, gets a new head to unlock.
Seraph now seems to be the highest tier of rarity, beating the orange rarity items. You’ll know an item is of Seraph rarity due to its pink lettering.
Three new achievements will also be available with this upcoming expansion DLC, which are; Gadabout, Completionist and Tresure Hunter.

Wondering what exactly are the new unlockable heads featured in this pirate-themed DLC? Don’t worry, we got you covered:

Don’t forget, with the Borderlands 2 season pass, which will cost you about $29.99 USD, you’ll be able to get upcoming campaign expansion DLC’s, including Captain Scarlet and Her Pirate’s Booty, as soon as they’re available. Unfortunately, we recently learned that the season won’t include all future DLC’s, according to a tweet from Randy Pitchford.

Thanks IGN for these videos

If you’re on the go and don’t have the time to see what’s included in these videos, here are some key highlights:

This DLC is set to be 8-10 hours long.
Features the Sandskiff which is a new vehichle that’s able to carry two people at a time (you and your Co-op buddy).
Get a quick look at some of the new enemies which are the Sand Worms and Pirates.
Captain Scarlett appears to be the main quest giver for this DLC.
A new NPC named ‘Shade’.
Showcasing a quest where you collect parts to rebuild the Sandskiff Shade.
Get a small glimpse of the Oasis where this DLC mainly takes place.

Captain Scarlett and her pirate’s booty is Borderlands 2 first campaign DLC and will be available tomorrow on your platform of choice. It will cost you $10.00 USD or 800 Microsoft points by itself, but if you’ve purchased Borderlands 2 season pass, you will get this upcoming DLC as soon it’s available at no extra charge. This, as well as three others unannounced campaign expansion DLC’s for $30.00 or 2400 Microsoft Points.

Borderlands 2

Zombies on an island. Ninja robot assassins. Gearbox Software ticked a few heavy-hitters off the geek love checklist with its Borderlands DLC packs. It's a pattern that continues with the first content drop for Borderlands 2, the pirate-themed Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty. The download pack arrives on October 16, 2012, but we were fortunate to spend more than an hour tooling around the pirate- and sandworm-infested wastes during a recent preview event.

Once downloaded, Captain Scarlett will simply integrate right in alongside your main Borderlands 2 content. Accessing it is simple: head to any fast travel point and you'll see a new location called Oasis added to your list of destinations. When you arrive you'll be greeted by Shade, a resident of the former seaside resort town. "Former" is the operative word here; Scarlett's pirates roam the sandy wastes of a dried-up ocean.

Shade is your typically deranged Pandoran, looking like a mash-up of T.K. Baha and Hunter S. Thompson's Dr. Gonzo persona. His relentlessly good cheer seems welcoming but it quickly becomes off-putting when you realize that this is a guy with some dark, dark thoughts. You first quest in the town of Oasis involves meeting with Shade's local "friends" in a search for vehicle parts.

I won't spoil the fun of meeting Jocko and the rest of the gang scattered around Oasis, but the parts you're collecting are necessary for one of the DLC's main new features: a sand skiff. As Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford previously hinted, the hovering sand skiff feels like its been ripped straight from the early scenes of Return of the Jedi. You'll have it unlocked at your Catch A Ride stations within 30 minutes of starting the DLC, a good thing considering how much ground there is to cover in Captain Scarlett.

Borderlands 2

In terms of size, the new DLC pack probably falls closest to the previous game's General Knoxx and Claptrap's Revolution content. You've got multiple interior and exterior locations to explore and add to your fast travel listing. Yep, you read that right: Borderlands 2 improves on the previous game's DLC by breaking the various maps into multiple fast travel destinations.

Once you've got your skiff squared away -- with your choice of machine gun, rocket launcher, or explosive harpoon accoutrements -- it's time to tear off across the ocean-turned-desert in search of Captain Scarlett, who invites you via ECHO communication to come find her. The skiff is great for cruising around the sandy, open environment; those harpoons make quick work of sandworms and pirate-controlled skiffs and, in a first for Borderlands vehicles, you can strafe around your targets.

Borderlands 2

One map and many squashed sandworms later, I come to Captain Scarlett's home, a giant-sized skiff that is not unlike Jabba the Hutt's own sail barge from Return of the Jedi. After clearing out some pirate rabble, the Captain invites you onboard for a sitdown. After the expected intro video -- which, in this case, explicitly warns you that you're going to be stabbed in the back -- Scarlett lays out the exposition that sets the DLC's main story in motion.

Apparently, there's a great treasure hidden away somewhere in Pandora's sandy wastes. A magical compass is able to point the way, only said compass has been broken into four pieces. Scarlett has one of those pieces and she wants you to recover the others. Her reasoning? You're not her, which means that if you fail in your mission, she'll live on. Of course, the potential reward of locating a long-lost hidden treasure is probably all the convincing you'll really need to take on the task.

The first of the three compass pieces that you need to recover is in the hands of Sandman, the leader of a local gang of bandits. Off you go then to Hayter's Folly, where you fight through a series of caverns and wooden walkways until you reach the midget bandit leader and his hulking lackey. It's typical Borderlands all the way, though you'll find a whole new assortment of pirate-themed bandit enemies, everything from Buccaneers to Pirate Ninjas, as you proceed.

Even in just an hour-plus hands-on session, it's clear that Captain Scarlett amounts to a hefty chunk of content, roughly 10-15 hours worth according to Gearbox. There are multiple exit points even on the first Oasis map, and lots of ground to explore between them. Just glancing at the mission list, I see a lengthy list of "undiscovered" quests to pick up. Moxxi's arena this is not.

Borderlands 2

The environments are quite striking, fitting right in alongside the already diverse assortment of locations that you explore in vanilla Borderlands 2. Pandora's dried-up oceanscape is littered with the bones of beached water vessels, from smaller 20-foot fishing boats to hulking freight liners. Some simply rest in the sandy ground while others dangle precariously high above it, split in two (or more) pieces by jagged mountain peaks.

There's even more that's hinted at in the DLC's opening hour. Some undiscovered quests points to carefully hidden bottle messages which, in turn, point the way to one pirate's stashed treasures. There's also a vendor locked away behind a door in Oasis, not unlike Crazy Earl the black marketeer in Sanctuary. The Oasis vendor only accepts Seraph Crystals, however, a new form of currency that you'll be able to spend on unique loot. You can also expect to encounter more raid bosses in the vein of Terramorphous the Invincible from vanilla Borderlands 2.

If anyone was concerned that a $10 DLC price tag might encourage Gearbox to skimp on the content offering, you can safely put those worries aside. Even at first glance, Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty appears to be just as well-developed a campaign add-on as the previous game's DLC packs were. There's plenty more to explore of course, but this taste was enough to convince the veteran Borderlands player in me that Gearbox hasn't lost its touch.
