I want to build a computer for gaming. Some of the games i want to play are Halo 2, and gears of war. But the only thing i have a budget, I can only waste $600 to $700 dollars. can i build a good computer for that amount of money.

No... you'll want to make it out of parts, not get a kit.

A good quad-core processor, about eight gigs of ram (on your budget, why not? especially for gaming), a higher end motherboard and a video card from ATI (one of the sexy ones) with a simple case ought to do it, right? Just go on Newegg and pick out some parts and ask what we think, eh? LOL.

I think for his budget 8GB of ram MIGHT be pushing it. 4GB should be plenty. In my opinion, I would suggest Nvidia video card over ATI, but that's personal preference.

No offense, but there are a LOT more members who can build computers here, and that have been around a lot longer and have good reputations on the site who I'm sure he would be much more inclined to having do the job if he really wanted someone to do it.

Maybe it was the way that I posted but I didnt say I was going to build it for him, I was saying I was going to build a list of parts for him to get. And Actually im alot known on OCN building pc's for many people even custom cases arranging from liquid cooling and tc cooling pc's.

i just want to know what parts to buy because i have never built a custom computer and i want to get one for gaming and video editing but waste about 800 dollars.
i dont want to buy parts that wont work or be the wrong parts for the computer.

Its actually quite easy, let me update my list with a better processor and mobo but those were pretty good 2-3 months ago before Nehalem was launched last year. I understand and building a PC is very easy, its like playing with lego's.

idk if you wanted Blue Ray but theres a Blue Ray drive in there, it comes out to $900 but its a pretty high end pc with new parts. You can edit the motherboard and blue ray drive to lower the price as well.

If you get 8 GB (unnecessary for today's games pretty much), then you have to get 64-bit edition or it will only be able to support about 3.5GB of RAM.

8 gigs is too expensive with a setup you really need. you will need 64 bit though with 4 gigs
