video codec with swapped hard drive
I had 2 xbox's in the house. Both have downloaded codec's to play video. However, the hard drives of the consoles got swapped so now the console needs to be connected to xbox-live to play video. This is because the hard drive and xbox don't match. I can't swap back hard drives for a few months because now the other xbox is thousands of miles away.

If I got banned from xbox live, I understand that I wont be able to play videos because I wouldn't be able to connect to live any more. But if I swap the hard drives back so the hard drive matches the console again, would it play videos, even if I was banned. As I said earlier both consoles have downloaded codec's, but before hard drives were swapped.

This feels like I just wrote a riddle

Yes, as long as the HDD matches the box it will play even if you're banned and/or offline.
