I bought some more RAM for my computer today (2 4GB modules) and when I install them my computer doesnt work. When I turn my laptop on nothing shows up on the screen, but the volume down button flashes. I know I installed it correctly because it is incredibly easy. When i put the old RAM modules in my computer works fine. Any help?

Some specs:
  • Running windows 7
  • Dell Studio XPS 1640
  • I purchased DDR3 Corsair 8GB
  • DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 PC3-10600
EDIT:
The mute button is lit up, the volume down button is blinking, and the volume up button is lit. I read that this means the system recognized the new modules, but they modules "failed".

Try each stick by itself.

Check to see if there is a bios update if so install it.

I've tried each stick by itself, and still nothing. Im going to check on that BIOS update.

EDIT:
Just did a BIOS update and still the same thing.

My computer can support up to 8GB of RAM, so I know thats not the problem.

This happened to me once on my desktop. One of the cartridges wasn't placed correctly.

it's worth trying to mix your working with non working to see if it will register and if you can try your new ones in another system.
