Question Update dashboard or flash first?

Reaction score
I just brought out the xbox 360 and decided I'd like to update it.
I have a BenQ (VAD6038) drive that I know has been flashed many years ago, possibly before 2011. The drive was manufactured in 2007 and I don't know when I stopped updating it. I was always careful and never got banned from xbox live. I think I was restoring original firmware and updating the flash every time I used it online. I can't remember exactly.

Now I am unsure how to proceed. I'm hesitant to connect it to the internet in case of an xbox live ban as a result of outdated drive firmware. I am also not sure what firmware was last flashed on the drive. It was a long time ago.

Do I go ahead and flash the drive with jungleflasher with the latest and greatest firmware before connecting it to the internet to update the dashboard? I read that the latest firmware is called LT+ 3.0. My drive probably has an earlier version flashed.
Is there a way for me check what firmware I currently have on the drive? Is there a Dashboard-firmware compatibility list somewhere?
Can I restore original firmware, temporarily without previous backups of the original firmware?
