So let me start off with... Have you ever wanted to save battery life while downloading something big from Cydia, Installous, or MxTube, etc? Well I found out a way to save a lot of battery life while downloading things.

So as we all know putting your iPhone and iPod Touch on sleep conserves battery power right? Well when you're downloading something, you can't really put your iPhone or iPod Touch to sleep. If you do, you'll lose connection to your 3G network or WiFi. Well I found a simple solution to that so you can put your iPhone or iPod Touch to sleep while downloading.

What applications you're going to need:
    Backgrounder

Go into Cydia and search for Backgrounder. This application allows you to run multiple apps without having to close them.

What I found out is that if you Enable Backgrounder when downloading. You can just put your iPhone or iPod Touch to sleep without losing Internet connection allowing you to download while saving battery.

I'll be using Installous as an example:

    Step 1: Run Installous.
    Step 2: Enable Backgrounder
Step 3: Go back into Installous (Because when you first enable backgrounder, you'll be sent to the homescreen.)
Step 4: I'll search for Rock Band to download.
Step 5: Well since it's taking so long to download, I want to put my iPhone or iPod Touch to sleep to save battery. I'll just put it on sleep.

and that's all you have to do!

Once done downloading, remember to turn off backgrounder and you're good to go!
Like I said, this will work with any 3rd party applications that allows you to download something.

I hope this makes sense to you guys. I'm just trying to give back to the community here at 7s.

If you have any questions or comments, go right ahead and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!

When I lived with my dad, I downloaded apps and the ones that took FOREVER, I put my iPod in sleep mode and I didn't lose internet connection and I didn't have Backgrounder.

I usually just keep mine plugged in while I download, but this is a good way for you to do it if you don't have a power cable. I noticed it the other day when I threw it into the background and was looking at facebook, then forgot I was downloading and turned it on, the download had finished! I was a happy man, haha,

While it does save some battery, Backgrounder hordes battery also, so it almost evens it out. Almost not necessary.
