Unsolved Transfer Kit Problem

Just got transfer kit and am having a couple of problems. First, I'm not sure if it's plugged in properly. I've plugged it into my 20GB HDD as far as it will go, but there is still a gap between the HDD and the end of the cable unit, but I can't see to plug it in any further?

If the above is normal, then Xplorer360 isn't working for me. I get the FatX Drive error when trying to find my HDD. Running Windows XP Sp3.
