It won't play games at really high settings, but it's good enough to play most games at medium settings.

Upgrade the GPU.
Upgrade to Windows 10.
Add an SSD.

It's not bad, but it is an entry level GPU. As said above, an SSD and GPU upgrade wouldn't go amiss. Also, if you're running 4GB RAM, I'd definitely upgrade that. Even 8GB is becoming meh in new AAA titles, 16GB is the sweet spot these days.
