I'm looking to get a retro set up. I just want a cheap way to play some emulators. I definitely want to use controllers. Should I just buy a couple of PS3 controllers and run it on my laptop? What about getting an old xbox 360 to do the same (This is probably my preferred method since it's stand alone). Please give me your opinions, it would be greatly appreciated.

So I just looked into Raspberry Pi 3. PC Richards has it for $42. Just need to get a couple controllers. I'm still taking suggestions/opinions though.

RetroPie is probably the easiest path to set up a nice game central. For controllers, try the Dualshock 3 and 4. They both run natively with RetroPie bluetooth.

+1 on the raspberry pi, they are fun to work with and lots of 3D builds out there to case it
