Jailbreaking your PS3 allows you to run homebrew applications such as:

• File Manager- which you can use to insert a modded game patch and host MW2 Modded Lobbys, for example.
• Multiman- which allows you to download game back ups.
• Emulators- such as the NES Emulator, which is like having a NES built into your PS3.
• Blackb0x FTP

Please note that currently you have to have a PS3 running on Firmware 3.55 or earlier to jailbreak it.

You cant jailbreak 3.56 atm. Maybe in the future when someone works on it but right now no ones doing a CFW 3.56
