I'm looking to get heavy usage out of the build with heavy apps like Visual Studio and Eclipse, also games like the new CoD, Fortnite and Siege. I'd like to try other games and have my build not be obsolete in a couple of years. I've read some places that this isn't a great time to buy video cards but I'm looking to get 240 frames without struggling. This is a build I feel comfortable with but other opinions would be great.

Here's what I would recommend
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/B2F3zY

It's slightly less performant than your build for gaming (around 5%) but it's miles better for productivity, eclipse, visual studio and such. It's also much much faster in term of load times and the monitor is also much better, it's only negative point is that it's a 144Hz monitor and not 144hz. The tradeoff being that you'll get a bigger screen, higher resolution and better color accuracy!

Decent list I like it way better than the original build in OP thread

A few minor suggestions

He should get faster ram and that Acer monitors kinda eh

The new LG 27GL850 is the best motion response of any LCD panel on the market and its fantastic colors.

The Intel drive is good for average users but for people with heavy writes like OP's specific workloads QLC drives do not have good endurance he should get something like a 1tb Corsair Force for a Primary drive then maybe a 1tb Intel 660 for a drive for like video games/fast storage the only issue with the 660 is the write endurance its fantastic for reads.

If he uses CPU heavy work he might want a good cooler.

I think that ram is likely to be Hynix CJR (could be micron rev-e though which is a bit better)

I actually have Hynix CJR in my system and I got it running 3733 Cas16 on a **** mobo that is not even supposed to be able to run ram over 3400mhz.
