Alright so my friend gave me his xbox to fix because it was over heating. Soon as i plug the av cables or hdmi cord into the 360 the fan starts increasing in speed and the heat sinks get extremely hot then it finally over heats giving me the 2 red rings. I did the xclamp mod and it does nothing as i figured it wouldn't so im open to any suggestions on how to fix especially since it can be jagged.

Also for got to mention that it doesn't over heat if i don't plug in the av cables or hdmi

reflow the xbox, best advice i can give you. fixes the xbox almost 100% of the time. but make sure the x-clamp screws are tight

Yeah a good baking of the xbox in the oven always seems to work the best considering i don't own a heat gun lol

I have heard of this but i would not recommend it. Too many things can go wrong, you would just cause yourself more problems. Either buy a heat gun for $25, which will revive your xbox or follow this TuT. http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/topic/41458-how-to-permanently-fix-the-3-red-lights-rrod-by-scar/

Dont reflow anything, its just common overheating. Give it new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, x-clamp fix and 12v fan mod to assure it doesnt overheat again.

Once you know the secondary error code you will be able to tell a lot more of what is going on. In my experience, when a xbox claims to be overheating immediately, it is caused by the RAM chips to the right of the GPU. 90% of the time a proper reflow of these ram chips will fix the problem.

But like Pure3d2, we dont know anything yet until we know the secondary error code.

if its cpu overheating this is wat i suggest, add arctic silver 5 thermal paste to both the gpu and cpu chips. then add a 12v fan mod, and problem solved!

i added arctic silver 5 paste and soon as i turn on the 360 the fan increases all the way to the highest running power within 30 secs of turning it on

maybe your not putting enough of it on, let it cool off for awhile then turn it on the the new arctic silver you added and a 12v fan mod will really help out your overheating problem
