"Treyarch's studio head Mark Lamia has dismissed criticisms that Call of Duty needs a new engine to power graphical improvements."

Sawce: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/347602/black-ops-2-new-engine-isnt-necessary-treyarch/

It's not even the graphics, a new engine would actually have the probability of bringing something new. In the trailer for it, EVERYTHING looked the same as always, so, not to flame, hate, or anything, but I for one, will be sitting out CoD this year for the first time.

That first quote LITERALLY was them saying "We think we can get by on this thing for another year until a change will be mandatory"

games can run on the same engine for a long time and have lots of improvements its just between mw2 and mw3 they barely tweaked anything, the graphics of a game can be improved without a new engine

Lol. Not buying the game because of the graphics. I wonder when people got this "I'm to good for these graphics" attitude. More and more I'm hearing "COD graphics suck". Compared to what? And why do graphics matter so much? I personally don't care if they improve the graphics. As long as they add a new campaign and new multiplayer maps and features I'm fine.

I wish kids actually had a clue as to what they were saying when they said "Cod x is using the same old engine" because for some reason when people hear them say they aren't using a new engine, they assume that they are being lazy. Obviously they made changes to the engine to accommodate the updated graphics, physics, etc. Just because they didn't change the version number doesn't mean they haven't changed anything. The time it would take for them to develop a new engine (that wasn't buggy as ****) would well exceed 3 years. ALL devs use the same engine for years, making changes along the way, just not necessarily the version number of the engine.

Gears of war graphics have barely changed. The difference between GTA IV and GTA V is barely even noticeable graphics wise. Why does it count so much for CoD? Buying a game for the graphics is like watching porn for the story.

didn't know gta 5 was out yet? And for games like gta, where there is a big open world, it's very hard to make the graphics good, especially on machines as weak as the current generation of consoles. People don't necessarily buy games for graphics but there are lots of people who hate looking at ugly graphics (or screen tearing).

GTA 5 isn't out yet :3. Based on the trailer. I'm not saying GTA 5 has bad graphics, because it has great graphics. It's just that some games have a maximum graphics level that they can achieve, and some people think it's different than others.

As far as i know they have been using the same engine since cod4 just a few upgrade to killstreaks and new features so i think a change would been needed for me to want to buy it. Call of Duty TBH is getting boring i'd like to see them change it up, but not a lot i understand why you wouldn't want one and i'm still on the fence about the subject but i think this new engine will be better although it may have its flaws in the beginning the will get it good and it may prevent modding a little better although i don't want to prevent modding for i love modded lobby's but there is to many as of now and that needs to change.

THIS JUST IN: After watching a 2 min trailer, and finding out Black Ops 2 will have the same engine, it has came to the conclusion that it will suck!!!

This is ignorant. They can still improve the graphics, no matter if they use the same engine or not. Treyarch is the only one that will actually work on it and make it better. They could change the Gaming Engine with out telling anyone, and 99% of CoD players would never know, and still claim they need a new engine.
