It wasent a rumor, they did have call of duty taken out of the title and then they brought it back.

I thought I even heard a developer discuss the fact that they dropped the franchise name when he was being interviewed. He said that they were taking it out because they want people to know it's not just another rehash of the same game. (The way CoD:WaW was.)
