The build looks great, and for the price (which I've heard so many good things about from Canada ) looks nice. If I may direct you to this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131837

It's only $25 more, but imo well worth the price. It offers 2xPCIE 3.0 slots, a better audio chipset, more USB 3.0 ports, more connectors, and probably most importantly, offers SLI support (whilst the one you posted does not). Since you are going with an NVIDIA card, grabbing a board with support for SLI is pretty important. This will allow you to pickup another 560 Ti HAWK down the road for dual-gpu's.

Of course that's just my opinion. If you don't want to change the motherboard, you can always change the video card to an HD 6950. It's basically the equivalent to a regular 560 Ti for around the same price. This will allow you to enter CrossfireX, as the motherboard you currently have supports it.

Just looked up that motherboard on the website I was looking at the parts on, and the price is $153.61, which is, like you said, basically $25 more than the one I had decided on. Thank you for the quick response as well. I was trying to stay under $1000 just so I didn't have to spend that much online. With the board you recommended, the total comes to $1017.38. Is it still worth it. I wasn't planning on SLI anyways, not even in the future. It just doesn't appeal to me. I prefer to stick with single cards. I can't tell you why, it is just a preference.

If you don't want SLI then yeah the motherboard you have now is fine, although seeing as it's a gaming build having the option of adding an extra card is always nice. Of course, if you don't want to go SLI then maybe going all out on a good graphics card now which will set you up for a few years would be a better option? It would obviously go over your $1000 budget, however in the long run seems worth it. If you're interested in that, picking up a GTX 670 for $400 would be the way to go.

The hard drive you have is a WD Caviar Blue. It's the "middle" range of the WD Caviar line, being faster than the Green, but slower than the Black. If you're going with a single HDD, then I'd choose a Caviar Black. Superior performance for an extra $50? Me thinks it's worth it.

The 560 Ti HAWK is factory overclocked which adds the extra $30. If you're going for a 560 Ti, either spend the extra money on a HAWK, or buy a regular one and overclock it yourself to around the same clocks. The HAWK also offers better cooling, something to think about.

The rest looks good.

It is very difficult for me to decide on what to get. Like you said, get a motherboard that has the SLI feature. A couple of extra bucks, okay, that's fine. Next was the idea of getting an excellent graphics card now and will save in the end. The thing about that point is that I really have not played computer games before, as my computer could not handle them, and am not looking for anything spectacular graphics wise. I can settle for medium settings if I have to. I do not enjoy spending money, and so when new games come out it really isn't on my to-get list. It is also for college work as well, which will probably be a lot, so gaming will kind of be semi-important. The next thing you discussed was the hard drive. Would a 1TB Seagate Barracuda suffice? Or should I stick with WD? My internet download/upload speeds are sub par, and in Canada we have to pay for monthly data usage, so I only have a limited amount of GB a month I can use up. I doubt I would hit anywhere close to 1TB, or even 500GB at that. Should I get a WD Caviar Black but downgrade to 500GB or should I stick with 1TB? Is the performance really noticeable from a Blue version to a Black version? Your last point was the 560 Ti HAWK. I wish the second parts store had the HAWK because it just sounds phenomenal at 950MHz factory. I have never overclocked, but probably intend to depending the the graphics card. Would the temperatures rise significantly from stock (830MHz) to say 950MHz? The case I get will likely have 3-4 fans in it, so would that keep it cool no matter what?

Regarding the XFX Radeon HD 6950, I just feel that NVidia has caught my eye. Whether it be the drivers, the fact most people have the card, or because GeForce sounds cooler than Radeon. I appreciate the recommendation though, thank you.

Sorry for the book I have just wrote. I have no structure, but hope you will take the time to read it all and give me further insight and direction on buying the hardware.

The 560 Ti can play any game on high right now @ over 30fps, so if you're just looking for at least medium settings, the 560 Ti will be perfect for two years or more.

Disregard what I said about the Caviar Black. After looking at a few benchmarks comparing HDD's, go with a Samsung Spinpoint F3. It offers performance very close to WD's Caviar Black, and uses less power and is much quieter. As for 500GB vs 1TB, definitely the 1TB. It's only $30 more (when comparing a 500GB Spinpoint F3 to a 1TB equivalent), and offers double the cache. And over time you will notice the difference in speed. Whether it be opening up applications, turning on the computer etc. loading will be reduced by at least a few seconds, and over the course of a year it will save you hours of waiting

You can safely overclock a 560 Ti to around 1000MHz with the stock heatsink. If you do overclock , temps under full load will reach around 70 - 80C. This is perfectly fine as the card can go up to 100C, and provided you have a good case with good ventilation and a few fans, the heat won't damage anything.

And yeah I'm with you on NVIDIA, they provide nice stable drivers and their cards are very good in terms of performance.

Unfortunately, the websites I have been looking at don't carry the Spinpoint F3 but will keep looking at the Caviar Black for prices.

Between the Barracuda 7200.12 and Caviar Black, there isn't too noticeable a difference. They both perform very closely to each other and any difference seen would barely be noticeable. Here's a good benchmark comparing the 3: http://techreport.com/articles.x/19330/10

Here is the build I have made up after all of your inquiries. I could not find the Asus P8Z77 board at the place I was looking, so I decided to go with another mid-priced board that had SLI compatibility. It's funny how the deals can change so rapidly. Take a look.

1 Intel Core i5-2500K Quad-Core Socket LGA1155, 3.30Ghz, 6MB L3 Cache, 32nm (Retail Boxed) (BX80623I52500K) $209.99 $209.99
1 LG GH24NS90 Black SATA DVD-Writer 24xDVD+R/-R 8xDVD+RW/6xDVD-RW 16xDVD+R DL 12xDVD-R DL 48x CD-R 32xCD-RW $21.99 $21.99
1 Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 DIMMs, w/XMP (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX) $59.99 $59.99
1 Asus ENGTX560 Ti DCII/2DI/1GD5 nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti Chipset (830Mhz) 1GB (4000Mhz) GDDR5 Dual Dual-Link DVI-I/Mini HDMI Display PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card $239.99 $239.99
1 Seagate Barracuda (ST1000DM003) SATA3 6.0Gb/s 1TB 64MB Cache (OEM) $89.99 $89.99
1 Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Socket 1155 Intel Z68 Chipset Dual-Channel DDR3 2133/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz 2x PCI-Express GLAN 7.1-CH HD Audio 3x SATA 3.0Gb/s 2x SATA 6.0Gb/s 12xUSB2.0 4xUSB 3.0 ATX $139.99 $139.99

I looked and the 7200.12 Version appears to be there, but says "In-Store purchase only"... so apparently you can't order it online. Maybe because it was Out of Stock, or maybe because it was part of a Clearance Sale... I don't know. I will keep an eye on it.

I would like to personally thank you InfectHead. You have always been the one to answer my questions and give me direction when dealing with computers and their parts. You know your stuff and I really appreciate helping me. Thank you.
