My plan with Verizon ends very soon, we were going to switch to AT&T but the plans don't fit us well. Anyway, I want to get an iPhone 3GS on 3.1.2 firmware. How can I get an iPhone and have it work on Verizon?

Also I'm going to stay with the 3.1.2 firmware, does that mean It will be stay untethered?

depends if the phone is a untethered or tethered device. Just don't upgrade to 3.1.3 as you will lose the unlock (you probably know that already).
