Hello all.
I just ordered a inspiron one 2305. My wife has been wanting one for some time and finally got one at a good price. 499 with free ship. My question is im sure that i will use this also and wanted a good pc when its all said and done. It comes with a AMD Athlon™ II X2 240e processor (2MB Cache, 2.8GHz) + ATI Radeon HD 4270 and 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 2 DIMMs . I want to upgrade to a 6 core processor and maybe either 6 or 8gb of memory. Is it possible to put a AMD Phenom™ II X6 1100T in its place. The socket is the same however the wattage for the x2 is 65w and the x6 is 125w. Will this make a big difference? and if this wont work please help with the right AMD processor.

You'll have to wait till you get it to find out how many WATS the PSU has.

Theres no PSU's that are gonna be under 125w...

I know this. It's common sense or else it wouldn't run period. I'm saying he'll have to wait and see since it's a pre built there isn't no telling how much room he has to upgrade. More than likely it'll be a crappy PSU. He can always replace the PSU as well to something better, and he won't have any worries.

The pc comes with a AMD processor as stated above. (AMD Athlon™ II X2 240e processor). It is a 65w processor. Here is a link to the specs on the processor it comes with. http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/processors/athlon-ii-x2/Pages/AMD-athlon-ii-x2-processor-model-numbers-feature-comparison.aspx The processor i want to put in it is a 6 core AMD also stated above (AMD Phenom™ II X6 1100T). Here is the link to the specs on the 6 core. http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/processors/phenom-ii/Pages/phenom-ii-model-number-comparison.aspx My question is the fact that the current processor is a 65w and the new 6 core is 125w gonna make a difference? I know they have the same socket because the AMD website shows it.

Yes, quite a huge difference. Putting a 125 TDP chip in a board that can barely hold its own isn't the brightest idea. I'm going to go off of a limb here and say it's some generic HP board that has absolutely no features, especially power phases.

And considering their FX chips are out, you'd be investing in junk. Pre-builts really do screw you over.

Hell, the generic prone-to-fail PSU's that they usually put in their pre-built PC's would be a major concern even if I was not adding a anything in.

ok so it wont hold 125w processor. Im currently looking at the FX processors and see the FX6100 which is 95w. Should i even consider changing these or just leave it alone? Maybe 95 is to much also so i found a four core older model AMD that is 65w Phenom II X4 910a. There is no FX processors lower than 95w...so unless that is ok then i will be looking at the X4 910a.
