This guy is selling a "devkit" but I'm not sure if it really is. Can you help identify it?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that is not a dev kit.

A dev kit has a large hdd looking thing on top where the hdd usually goes like this

The sidecar is the thing on top.

Not every xdk has them.

However, every xdk has special wires/ports on the top of the xbox

It looks like a real XDK. There's really no way of actually knowing unless you pop it open. And most people (modders/non-licensed developers) that own an XDK don't have a sidecar on them.

The big thing on top is called a side car and not all XDXs have one.

The only real way to tell if it is a XDX is if there are wires coming out of the top of the console or on the warranty sticker on the back it might say Xbox Development Kit where it normally says xbox 360.

the problem with that guy is that he posted a pic with the manufacture date of 2006, but claims it was made in 2008

It doesn't HAVE to have those wires coming from the top. Anyways, both dev and demo kits have ports for those wires coming out of the top, so you can't really tell the difference just from those wires. If I recall correctly, demo kits only have ports for the two wires coming from the top, where as all dev and some test kits have other ports such as the sidecar power port.

I'll get you some pictures of what a dev kit motherboard looks like if I can get my laptop to boot.

I noticed it doesn't have a DVD drive. Is this standard for a dev kit?

XDK's have dvd drives. But they are not console locked so unlike a retail you can just plug in a new dvd drive and it will work perfectly fine.

I don't think it is. Any black elite box can be made to look like a dev kit. The only way to tell for sure without physically holding it is to have detailed pics on the mobo.

I think thats a test mobo/test kit.

If the person selling the dev kit was legit, they wouldn't take a pic like that then. They would want to show that it is actually a dev kit, right? If it was me, I wouldn't buy it until he shows pics of the motherboard like everyone else said.

You can also tell what it is from the XDK launcher. It should say in the top-right iirc. Demo Kit's and Development Kit's are essentially the same. They can both use sidecars.

EDIT: That pic looks familiar. Anyway, OP, I recommend buying from someone trusted, so you don't get ripped off.

EDIT 2: I found out, it has a bit of text in the top left of the XDK Launcher stating what it is.
