That is more than enough. You will be fine as long as you have a graphics card to match with it.

But if i did get an i7 what gaming related benefits would i get? How about just general performance benefits.

Zero gaming benefits. And zero general performance benefits. Only a select few applications actually utilize hyperthreading.

Not too many games can take full advantage of the i7, but more games are starting to get up there. Like I said, you really need a balanced system. Your processor will improve frame rates, but you need a good graphics card too.

Please tell me what games actually utilize hyperthreading. Last i checked they either affect it by 1-2% or nothing at all.

Better CPU rendering in CPU demanding games.
Less chance of bottlenecking therefore better FPS.
Insane overclocking = Better/Faster.
Few gaming benchmarks.

1. Games still don't utilize hyperthreading.
2. Having an i7 3770k or i5-3570k both will have the same chance of bottlenecking, hyperthreading isn't going to change that.
3. They both overclock the same?
4. Those benchmarks didn't exactly do the i7 any insane justice.

Well by more I meant future games. Once next-gen consoles come out, I'm sure developers will be able to utilize it.

Maybe in 2-3 years but by that time you'll be upgrading your CPU anyways

Depends what your graphics card is.
